Last year, when I got up to around 8 miles, I suddenly developed knee problems (probably runner's knee - chondromalacia) that got so bad I stopped running for the season (even after a two-week break, the pain would come back within a mile).

I've looked into shoes, my form, pronation, knee exercises, stretching- but one frequent factor contributing to runner's knee is how fast one increases their mileage. However, I can't find any sort of remotely authoritative sounding recommendations on how quickly I should increase (preferably something backed by some research, but otherwise at least backed by a doctor or someone with sports-medicine credentials). I've heard stuff between adding several miles a week and "not more than a 10% increase per week," never with any references.

I'm not looking for "this worked OK for me," I'm looking for at least slightly authoritative recommendations, if available.

I follow a high-protein, moderate carb diet, drink lots of water. I work out 4 days a week with weights and do 30 minutes of cardio, but have a really hard time gaining muscle. Anyone konw of any good supplements that might help? I am 5'3", 114 pounds, want to be about 120 pounds and a little more muscular.

...to meditate in?

Mine is either sitting cross legged with a blanket supporting my sit bones, or laying down on my back with my legs up on a chair (calves parallel to floor).

And you? :)

I started trying to loose weight about 2 months ago. I am 5ft 8in, I was at 184lbs, I am now at 163lbs. I have worked my way up to an hour a day on the treadmill. When I'm on the treadmill have have sweat dripping off of me. I have cut my portion size in half and watching what I eat. I have lost 21 pounds and a dress size so far. I was seeing a differience on the scale every week but I haven't seen a differience this week. What's going on? I found out that I have thyroid disease about 5 months ago. The doctor now has it undercontrol. Maybe it's just that I have gained some muscle, I don't know. I'm not going to stop exercising and eating right cause I feel sooooooo much better now, but I want to loose about 20 - 30 more pounds. Help!!!!!!!!
