anything that raises your heartrate for a certain period of time...40-60 mins is optimal. do stuff like fast walking, running, swimming, jumping (rope or trampoline), weight lifting...etc etc.
this stuff will work on getting rid of the fat.
crunches and ab exercises will help the ab muscles grow so they look better when the fat is gone.

The best exercises to get rid of fat around the stomach is cardio, and cardio is this: walking fast, swimming, running, stationary bike, kickboxing, tae bo, aerobic classes, anything that will keep you moving for 30 minutes at least will burn fat.
You can tone the muscles underneath the fat, but until the fat is coming off you can't see the muscles, hope this makes sense! Eating at nite, cheeses, sweets, sodas, fast food, these things also put it around the middle.
Try to get your output to be more than your input and you'll lose, hope this helps!
