The proper way to breath is into your abdominal muscles, os yes, your stomach. Because I have athsma, I have to breath extra hard. I find when I'm stressed or nervous, I breath in my chest. That is not right. The reason why you want to breath in to your stomach is so that you get air in all of your lungs.

You breathe in while exerting (ex. pulling) and breathe out when releasing. For example, while doing sit ups, when you lean forward (while straining the muscle) you would inhale, when you lean back and relax, you would exhale. I hope I helped, it's what I do when exercising.
By the way, I LOVE YOUR AVATAR! It's so cute!

the "3 part breath" - fill up your belly, expand your ribcage, and finally the very top of your chest. inhale through your nose, exhale opposite of the 3 part breath through your mouth
