I am a new vegetarian and I have a 7 month old baby! Now is the time that I need to start thinking about introducing proteins into her diet. I don't know where to begin. I mean, I know beans are the best source for her, but how do I prepare them to make them easy for her to eat? What are other great sources of protein for her? She eats just about anything I feed her. Can someone please help me?

All my makeup is getting old and I want to replace it. I prefer to spend $50-75, but I'd go up to $100 if necessary. I usually wear mascara, eye liner, eye shadow, blush, lightly tinted lip balm and powder/foundation (the all-in-one kind in a compact). My skin is somewhat oily and acne-prone if that's important. I prefer to hear from people who actually use vegan cosmetics, but any suitable answers would be great. Thanks in advance!

Of the little vegeterian/vegan people I know some of them do drink and some of them do not. I wanted to know if this was striclty a personal choice (as i don't think animals are involved with alcohol drinks) or is there a lifestyle connection to refraning from alcohol?

How do you feel about Pennsylvania's decision to stop dairies from telling customers that their cows are not treated with artificial growth hormones?

The article is here: http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/business/20071113-1350-hormones.html

My opinion is that it doesn't make any difference whether the milk is scientifically the same or not. If customers want to know whether the cows are treated with growth hormones or not, and the companies want to tell them, then the companies should have the right to tell them.

What do you all think?

(I know this is a repost, I'm just hoping I get more answers in this section since vegetarians are often interested in growth hormones and such.)

I am a vegan and hence I avoid all animal products such as milk and eggs. The problem is that there are so many products out in the market which use them in the recipes. I have recently found that frenchfries contain milk in their preparation much to my dismay. Even Jell-O, marshmallows and many more such foods contain gelatin which is extracted from animals.

I would like to know a list of all such (most common) food items which use animal products so that I can avoid them. I have tried a few websites such as goveg.com, peta.org, etc but I could not find a comprehensively compiled list anywhere.

Vegans, help me out. Thanks

I love animals, but I also love eating meat. I live in a city where it would be pretty easy to eat out and be a vegetarian. What are your thoughts on the subject in general.

As a vegan and a strong supporter of animal rights I am still confused as to wether or not it is wrong to have a pet? Sure it is supporting a cruel and depraved industry, but these animals do exist and they arent just going to go away they need homes and care. What do you think?

I am constantly clearing my throat *numerous* times per day, mainly after or while eating but this also occurs after bathing and at other times through the day. I feel the need to do this because I don't have a clear passage way and have trouble breathing if I don't.

What could be causing this problem and what treatments could I get to help?

Additional information:

I am so tired of this. I have not always had this problem. I think it may have started about 10 years ago when I cut out meat.

I don't smoke and never have.

I eat soy products very rarely. I have soymilk with cereal but it's like a couple days out of the month. I may eat "mock" meats like every couple months or so. I eat a lot of dairy and anything else I want MINUS the meat.

Ok... i became vegetarian (not vegan) a month ago, and im running out of ideas about the meals.
I am 125 pounds, male, 5.5' and would like to gain some 10 pounds.
I just need ideas of high calorie meals, and if you know can you include the number of calories in each one?.

Im working with my yoga teacher about the vitamines and minerals that i am replacing by being vegetarian so do not worry about that, i just need to add more options to the menu but packing as much calories as i can.

Thanks you.

At least three or four times, people have made statements on this forum that are somewhat puzzling to me. It usually has to do with people arguing that you can rightly call yourself vegetarian and eat fish, poultry, or whatever. The statements went something like this: "Ancient vegetarian cultures have always accepted pesco-vegetarians."

But none of these people ever gave an example of one of these so-called "vegetarian cultures."

What are they talking about? Can any of those people give an example or were they just making it up?

(By the way, my wife is from India. That's the closest thing to a "vegetarian culture" that I can think of and I know for a fact they have very clear ideas about what is or is not vegetarian. A lot of Indians aren't vegetarian, though; I'm not talking about that.)

I have been making the traditional hummus with garbanzo beans, tahini, lemon and garlic (with salt, cummin, black pepper, red chile pepper to taste) and garnished with olive oil, paprika and parsley. I would like some ideas for additional ingredients to add.

Important Note: They must be vegan ingredients. Also, if you are one of usual hatemonger trolls who hang out in this section, please do not reply. I only wish to hear from real people with real advice. Unlike you guys, I actually use Yahoo! Answers to learn things and better myself.

I'm hearing lately that vegans can't eat TONS of stuff. I haven't believed it's true, but I NEED TO KNOW before I turn vegan.

I didn't know that vegetarians couldn't eat gelatin when I turned veggie, so that was a mistake...anyway, PLEASE HELP!!

I really don't know - I know about meat, dairy, and eggs, but that's about it.
