I've been considering becoming a vegetarian for a while now. I recently read a book called " Eat Right For Your Blood Type." I'm a blood type O of African heritage and it encourages the consumption of meat. The book says the Blood Type O's were the original meat eaters. Has anyone else read this book and what are your thoughts about this? How can this possibly affect my health when I become a vegetarian?

Hello everyone,

I recently became a vegetarian and I've been having trouble keeping my weight on. Now I'm already a fully grown 23 year old who weighs 50kg so I don't really want to lose anymore.

I've always been rubbish with food and knowing what is good for me and what has what in it. Could you give me some advice of which foods to eat which would supply me with the substances to keep me healthy and keep my iron levels up (I always border on anaemic! Oh and I'd prefer to stay away from supplements or tablet vitamins.

Cheers

One of the main reasons I became vegan was because of the book "The China Study," and because of my family's terrible history of heart disease. Our livers just make too much cholesterol on their own, etc. etc. I have scrawny 10 year old cousins with astronomical cholesterol etc.....

So I just was curious if anyone out there knew pretty strict vegans who were unlucky enough to "still" get cancer and/or heart disease that would cause heart attacks, angina, etc.

Thanks!!! Been vegan 95% of the time since Nov 06 and I love it! I'm Punjabi, which helps, because the ability to eat really spicy Punjabi, Indian, Pakistani, and Thai food makes you never ever ever miss all that meat, dairy, etc.! I love it and feel great!

No bread, no high amounts of dairy, and no meat.

Any ideas for meals or snacks?

I was thinking the other day about what I want to do when I apply for college in about 2 years. What about if I wanted to open my own no-kill animal shelter, what would I major in? I was thinking veterinary medicine and business? Is that right, or what else? Any tips are helpful! :-D THANKS!

I would like to try a healthier diet. Not for weight issues, but just for a healthier life style. I would like to stay away from meat products, caffeine, breads and pastas. So I know vegetables will be my number one food. Any other food items that you can list would be helpfull. What types of veggies do you perfer and what other kinds of food should I try or try to stay away from? Thank you.

I am thankful for the Vegetarian & Vegan section of Yahoo! Answers. It allows me to share information with other veggies. However, one thing we can do without is the profanity. One poster, in particular, feels it is necessary to use bad words to convey her messages.

"...ham slices... soooo damn good! - jenny84"

I respect the rights of others and if she likes ham, that is her choice. However, I don't think it is necessary for her to use bad words. I am definitely going to report this person.

I saw one on my street, and thought, thats a good free snack. But i'd better check first, just to make sure...I'm not a nutter realy...No pun intended...

And if it's not safe to eat raw acorns after washing them, are there any ways that you can consume them. I have heard of acorn coffee a few times though...

My new gf is vegetarian, I am trying to figure out how to make a vegetable stock that actually taste like something!

Chicken and beef stock taste so rich and delicious (I am not vegetarian myself). I have yet to make a veg stock that really tasted like anything more than glorified water!

Please help! I need a veg stock that has FLAVOR in it!

O.K. I have not always been a vegetarian. I converted about 3 years ago. I did it to loose weight. I got accustomed to being on an all vegetable diet and liked it. I don't eat any form of meat except occasional sushi. I do, however, use bacon or fat back for flavor when I cook greens and cabbage. I was raised eating greens in this fashion, and I can hardly eat them any other way. What do other vegetarians think of this practice?

Okay so i'm on this diet where I have to stay away from bread. At least for awhile. I'm also a vegetarian. I picked up some Hummus because it's wonderful and I don't know what to eat it with. So far I've used carrots, broccoli and cauliflower but do you have any other ideas? Remember NO BREAD

I need some good, reliable sources. Books, magazines, websites, etc to study the next month to make sure I do this the right way and to make sure I don't fail because I'm not doing it right. I appreciate any suggestions.

I really want to improve my health, and stop eating helpless animals. I think being a vegetarian would be cool to help me lose weight too.

But I want to stay as manly as possible. I read alot about how vegetarians often have low testosterone/sperm count levels.

I plan on having kids someday and dont want to regret this since im still growing and everything. Plus I probably would be forced into eating alot of soy products, and read that soy increases estrogen levels.
