I just started being a vegetarian, and have been for about a week. Could someone please tell me some faux meats that you can buy at a grocery store and cook at home? I started some Eating Right vegetarian breakfast links and ended up giving it to my dog. Please something tasty!!!

Thank you &hearts

All of my life I've never really enjoyed eating meat. I don't really crave it but I can't seem to make a transition to becoming a vegetarian. I think I have a very negative perception of it and I would LOVE to know the truth about it. I've always been told that vegetarians eat Tofu, soy milk, meals that look like the "real" thing (veggie burgers, veggie patties made to look like chicken, etc).

I want to look into becoming a vegetarian b/c I'm disgusted by the industry and I'm not a huge fan of meat to begin with. I want to become healthier and make better choices about food. I've read the PETA website info and looked through the links but I'm still very confused as to what I could and couldn't eat and are there really "levels" of vegetarianism?

Am I being ridiculous? Please, no condescending remarks. You can just as easily click off this question. I'm really curious about this subject and would prefer not to sort through rude comments.

Thanks in advance to all those who help

Are we able to digest raw Quinoa, and get all of its nutrients?

I had decided to go vegetarian about two years ago. I then found out from my step dad that by doing that you can’t make certain enzymes that help you digest meats and such, so I have decided to switch back to eating meats, although I hate it. Would I still be able to properly digest meats after two years of none? Just wondering.

I recently went vegetarian, and am going vegan and was wondering if there is a way to re-create buffalo wings in a vegan lifestyle, because I used to love the real thing. Any sites/recipes are appreciated.

I got a free meal from my a school event today. It was so packed and so hard to find my friends (who don't care to use their cell phones except at night) that I decided to grab the meal and eat at our student center, an 8 minute walk away.

When I arrived and sat down, I discovered that my sandwich, which I'm certain I picked from the "veggie" table, was actually roast beef. I'm currently a pescatarian, (seafood eater) and plan to be full vegan by the end of the semester. I've not eaten a bite of meat or poultry since late June, and when I sat looking at my sandwich today I was like a recovering alcoholic looking at a beer. I love the taste, but I know it's not healthy and I can't turn a blind eye to livestock cruelty.

I ended up taking the meat off the sandwich and tossing it. I didn't want to be wasteful of the poor animal's flesh, but I felt like eating it would be cheating my ethics. What do you guys think? Would eating it have been morally permissible?

I've found TVP at http://www.waltonfeed.com and http://www.harmonyhousefoods.com

The prices on these web sites seem competitive. Are there better places to purchase TVP from, either pricewise or tastewise? Also, if anyone has had experience with the taste of the products from either of these web sites, please share your culinary experience. Thanks!

Is it immoral for us to eat vegetables and fruit? Does it "hurt" when we harvest plant products? Is there a way to eat without causing plants pain and misery?

If Soy milk isn't safe, and cow's milk shouldn't be consumed by humans-then what dairy beverage would be acceptable/healthy for children?
Example: What can be subsititued as milk for a bowl of cold cereal?

A Mountain Gorilla eats an entirely vegan diet, however, it has enough strength to rip a car door off its hinges. What more proof do you need meat eaters? If a Mountain Gorilla can live a full healthy life on a vegan diet, then so can you. There is no excuse to eat meat. The Mountain Gorilla is proof.

It was hiding right at the back of my cupboard. When I retrieved it I found that it had started to sprout. This vegetable was clearly a living thing, and although it did not outwardly display any signs of anxiety at being caught, what is to say that this living being was not quaking in his little boots. Would I be morally right or wrong to skin this little fella, chop him up and serve him up for dinner. It is obviously a living creature.
Are vegetarians actually worse than omnivores when it comes to cruelty to living things? After all they kill, skin and slice up all that they eat thus committing acts of cruelty directly to their food. At least when an omnivore buys a piece of meat it is already dead.
Incidently the potato is currently enjoying a stay of execution on my window sill pending a decision

Do we have the right to murder innocent sentient beings for food when science has proven that a vegetarian diet is all we need for proper nutrition. If we murder our next door neighbor, we go to jail, but if we murder an innocent sentient being, we call it a big mac. What is the difference?

I was thinking of juicing some of the pepper sprouts. I know I can juice the peppers, but I wasn't sure about the pepper sprouts.

If you have nothing nice to say, please do not answer my question. I am sick and tired of all the negativity in the V&V section. Hatemongers will be reported.

Im trying to teach my sister and my parents that animals are not for eating so maybe instead of buying an egg IM going to buy the little chicks they sell them for 1 dollar and im going to raise it and then no one will be able to eat it and they will realize that animals have feelings too. Can you imagine my dad trying to take a bite of his KFC while watching the little chick run around the house? i'd love to see his face! maybe i'll buy a tank of fishes and other animals.. is it a good idea??? im not in favor of pets or keeping animals in jail but its for a good cause..

What are some low calorie frozen vegetarian dinners that are actually good? I don't do the whole microwaving in plastic thing...it can cause cancer, so I am looking for something I can cook on the stove or in an oven!

What is a machine that grounds a carrot into a tptally smooth paste. The consistency of peanut butter lets say. I know a regular food processor won't do it. A blander wont without a lot of water added in. A meat grinder won't get it that smooth. There must be a machine that does this. Anybody know what it is. Thanks.

If I have, why? I'm not trying to be a smart alick for once, I just want to know what was it about my questions/answers that offended you? I am actually doing a report on the reactions of different groups (mostly vegetarians) to people opposing there life style. I don't expect anyone to believe me, but it is true. Thanks!
