im thinking of becoming vegetarian (for health reasons), and i was wondering what exactly do you guys/gals eat? no meat i know... but what do you eat to make up for the nutrients, etc. lost from not eating meat?

im a college student, and i cant have a stove in the dorm, so i cant really cook, just microwave. are there any suggestions as to what i can pick up from wal-mart to eat? they do have salads at the cafeteria, but i dont want to eat that every meal heh

I'm going to assume you will be a lacto-ovo vegetarian:

Beans/Rice
Tofu
Cheese
Nuts/Seeds

In the grocery store try and find Morning Star stuff... they have tofu hamburgers/hotdogs/chicken fingers... some is good, others aren't so great. Also, if you go to a natural food store I'm sure they can help you with any questions you may have.

Go to http://www.peta2.com/college/c-recipes.asp
This site has awesome dorm room recipes. Try those Thai Kitchen and Simply Asia noodle bowls. Many flavors are vegan. If you have a mini fridge, then you can stock up on cold cuts from Tofurkey, Smart Deli, and Yves; and also try the vegetarian ground "beef" and hot dogs as well. To make vegetarian tacos you can mix a little taco seasoning with a can of refried beans and spread on a tortilla. If you like avocados, then try an avocado and tomato sandwich. Hope this helps!

does your dorm have a cafeteria? they have to provide some kind of vegetarian option. ask them about it and i'm sure they have veggie burgers or something like that stored in the back somewhere.

as for dorm-accessible vegetarian food, soy products keep well in freezers, as do mixed vegetables. amy's organic frozen dinners are good as well (but don't rely on frozen dinners ALL the time), campbell's has a vegetarian vegetable soup (make sure it says vegetarian on it because their regular vegetable soup is made with beef broth), and you can honestly make ramen pretty healthy if you take out the seasoning packet and add some veggies and beans to it.

Soy, tofu, beans...they all make up for the protein...there are TONS of products out there you can microwave...try ALL of the Morningstar products...LOVE 'EM! They have veggie burgers, chicken patties, chicken nuggets, sausage, etc...pretty much anything that you can think of! Good luck!
