Do we have the right to murder innocent sentient beings for food when science has proven that a vegetarian diet is all we need for proper nutrition. If we murder our next door neighbor, we go to jail, but if we murder an innocent sentient being, we call it a big mac. What is the difference?

Luci, that is the problem. There is no justice in this world. Just look at the people on Yahoo! Answers that have no morals at all. They think they are great because they can murder an innocent animal. They think that makes them tough. The only think that makes them is common cowards.

Gee Ashely, what happened to 'I forget sometimes and lose the focus, and I just want us to all get along, can't we turn the page?' Now you are here again ranting at us, calling us murderers, AGAIN. It is funny how every person who does not share your extremist views gets reported by you, and someone who posts a question regarding drinking beer and whiskey then you answer and tell them they are wrong for drinking. I guess not all of us are as pure and snow white as you.

I grew up in the country. My neighbours raised goats that lived in a beautiful field with rowan trees and a stream where they drank. As children we would play with the goats and we loved them like pets. We would drink the goats milk but never if they were feeding a kid.
When each goat turned four it was slaughtered by our neighbour and the meat from one goat was enough to feed two families for several weeks. Every part of the goat was used including the skin and hooves.
I have never known animals that were more loved or lived happier lives than those goats. Where I grew up the soil was not very good for growing things and we had very small harvests of pretty basic carbs, potatoes and root veg, plus a small summer crop of salads and a few fruits in the autumn. When truly living off the land, nature dictates that we eat a varied diet, sometimes only non-meat items and sometimes predominantly a meat diet.
Without those goats, one or two deer that my father would shoot (a neccessary action where we lived to help maintain a healthy herd) and a generous supply of "swapped" meat such as pork or chicken from other neighbours and the accompanying eggs, milk and cheese, we would have been a very sickly community. We lived hundreds of miles from large grocery stores and we didn't have the money for expensive soy and protein replacement products.
So are you telling me that my entire life denotes me as a murderer? That my childhood was corrupt and wrong? I have the ultimate respect for all living things and I appreciate every bit of meat that I consume, as I appreciate everything I am fortunate enough to eat.
Eat whatever you like, but do not equate an omnivorous diet with murder.
I know a lot of vegetarians and people of vegetarian tendancies, but in most cases those people are less healthy than those who eat meat. While most vegetarians are more aware of the health factors of what they are consuming, most also fail in consuming the nutrition that it is harder to find on a vegetarian diet, and are thereby often weaker and more lethargic, with various digestive issues and other complaints. It's not impossible to be at the peak of health on a vegetarian diet, but neither is it easy. From what I've seen, most vegetarians are willing to sacrifice some of their health for their morals, and to me that will not benefit mankind in any way.

The analogy is incorrect and several statements are globalized. All of science has not proven a vegetarian diet is all we need. Some parts of science would hold that plants are sentient. So you see, your argument really doesn't make a lot of sense.

Philosophically we may not only have a right but a duty to take a life. But that is a different and longer discussion that you may not be able to follow.

Do we have the right to murder? -- no.

it's like saying do we have the right to murder the stranger that lives down the road?
just because other animals aren't as advanced as humans, does not mean we have the right to torture and kill them just to stuff our faces.

just think about it the opposite way around, if an animal kills a human and eats it, the animal is killed.
but humans can kill animals and eat them?
that doesn't make any sense.

sure, i suppose it was okay in times before tofu, and such were made, but now that we have much healthier ways to get protein, iron, ect. from foods without having to kill a poor innocent animal, it's not okay.

i understand why animals that aren't as advanced as human beings eat meat, it's for their survival, and besides it's not like they really know what exactly what they are doing, sorta.

i hope all of these meat-eating jerks that like to put down vegetarians/vegans because of their beliefs enjoy their heart attack at the ripe old age of forty.

actually i don't hope anyone has a heart attack, but you get the point.

I think every living creature's life has an intrinsic worth. If we as humans believe that, then we don't take the life of another creature.

As for vegetables and fruits being "hurt" by vegans, people should understand that most fruits, veggies, and grains reproduce themselves by being eaten, and the seeds scattered around through "droppings" --- so contrary to the meat-eaters-myth that vegetables and fruits do not want to be "murdered" -- actually they want to be eaten so they can reproduce themselves --

while animals, insects, fish, and shellfish do not want to be eaten and we have to take their lives against their wishes --

we think we have the "right" to take the lives of any animals.

If there were truly any justice in this world --- we would not be allowed this "right" -- because it is not right, it is wrong.

Who is this WE?

I would believe that the bulk majority on this site, and even in the world, have NEVER committed such an act.

That is reserved for a select few, none of which you are likely to have the ability to address.

You are therefore accusing innocent people of a crime they have never committed.

As an American you should easily understand that this can lead to litigation in a court of law for case of slander.

Incidentally, you also use the word 'Hatemonger' regularly. Perhaps you should consult a dictionary (http://www.yourdictionary.com/ahd/h/h0082665.html) for instance where you will realise that the definition actually refers to YOU!!!

perhaps there is no difference but i believe that man needs a degree of meat for protein as well as vegetables and fruit, and that it creates a balanced diet. What do you suggest we do with the sentient beings if we don't eat them as most of the animals we eat have little use other than to provide food and their by products. Does this encompass, fish, because they are just as much a part of our foods and are just as much a sentient being?

Can i just point out that people do not physically murder the meat unless that is their profession, they get it served dead. Everyone has their own opinions and i think this question is a bit too big and controversional.

Well lets see dumby. Animals make no independent contribution to society. Humans do or at least most of us do. Which medical study says we can survive on vegetarian diet only?
Only the ones written by cranks who are already confirmed vegetarians. General observation can easily tell you that veggies are not normal. The way they dress the way they smell the way they patronise us poor meat eaters.
Fact is you cant say that eating only veg is as good for you as a proper balanced diet.
Question if you apply the same laws to our relationship with animals i.e. calling the legitimate slaughter of an animal murder then surely you would have to extend that on the other side of the equation and campaign to turn all omniverous or carniverous animals into veggies. Can you imagine a veggie Tiger or Shark or any fish. What about the Venus Fly Trap?

Wow, you are an idiot.

Do Lions have a right to murder dinner every night?

Do you ever drive in a car? Tires are made with animal parts, just because you don't eat tires, doesn't mean you didn't help splice the head open of the poor creature sacraficed so you can go to your stupid vegan rallies.

Stop being a moron that believes in things, as long as they are convenient for you. If you don't like "murdering animals" then do the following:

Never ride in a car again

Don't ever wear leather, or even shop at a store that has leather

Never buy any food from a store ever again, not even vegitables. When harvesting machines pick veggies in fields, they run over and crush the skulls of burrowing animals. That means you have to grow EVERYTHING you consume, NO EXCEPTIONS. Just because YOU didnt drive the harvesting machine doesn't mean YOU didn't help crush its skull open.

Have fun the rest of your life, walking everywhere (bikes use tires too, awwww), and spending your whole day growing crops. Hope you live somewhere warm!
