Vegetarianism, undoubtedly has its advantages, is easier on teh stomach than meat. But it seems to close down your food options. I did go vegetarian for 10 days, and it was different, but I couldn't resist. Can you suggest some good vegetarian foods that I can take on a daily basis, or a plan that limits my meat comsumption? I want to go vegetarian for a month.

I saw a cooking programme a while ago, and the chef used this bizarre vegetable which looked really intertesting.

It look exactly like a banana, aside from it was much longer and less curved. The difference was this version is a vegetable not a fruit - it was something to do with the starch not converting to sugar, so it could be used to cook meals with - apparently it was quite savoury?

I can't for the life of me remember what it was called, but it looked interesting and I'd like to have a bash at using it - I think it's suited to more Carribean dishs, but I could be wrong.

If anyone knows the name of it I'd be in love with you.

From time to time, when someone asks a question about determining what salad dressing, cookies, BBQ sause, crackers etc, are veggie I will suggest one way to find okay food is to look for a kosher symbol such as U inside a circle, or a K inside a circle or triangle.

This always results in a lot of thumbs down.

This approach works because Jewish diatary law forbids mixing milk and meat. So unless the food is marked as being meat or marked as being dairy it contains neither meat nor milk what is refered to as parve.

Why are people so against using this as one method for finding vegan food?

Is it anti-semitism?
Or jeolousy because not nearly as much food is marked vegan?
Bitter because Jewish dietary law which was the first religion to incorporate respect for animals into the religion didn't go all the way to vegitarianism?

My entire family loves meat, but after seeing a video about KFC's slaughter houses I don't think I can ever buy meat again. I knew they where not killed with kindness but I had no idea how bad the animals where treated. I need some really good recipes because my husband is a "meat and potatoes" kind of guy and I need to convince him vegetarian meals are just as good! I am also wondering if cutting out the meat will cut down our grocery bill? We are on a tight budget and if he see's less money going towards the store I think he would be more open minded about the change.

What percentage of new vegetarians go vegetarian because of PETA efforts to reach meat eaters?

Would you say most people go vegetarian because they researched it and decided to go vegetarian?

hi, im thinking about going vegan because ive seen the videos on chooseveg.com and was repulsed by not only the cruelty but also the fact that i am eating something in filthy and inhumane conditions. also cause i read somewhere that eliminating saturated fats (found in dairy and meat) from your diet will help clear skin..
also i know that a good vegan diet is really healthy and i care a lot about my health.
basically does anybody know of good vegan recipes and meal ideas, cause i know this will take planning (something i am very good at) and a committed attitude.
thanks in advance!

When I call a company and ask them if their products contain any animal byproducts, and they say no (and they also say they don't test on animals), the product should be okay to use right?
Does that mean it doesn't contain animal PRODUCTS right? Do products and the byproducts mean the same?

I have been curious for some time about people who strictly follow Veganism do when they become ill? I know for minor events Health Food Stores and what not have medications that are vegan friendly, but what about major diseases such as diabetes, cancer, or even involved in an auto accident, ect?

Anyways, I am curious and please don't say that poeple who follow veganism never get major diseases because that cannot possibly be so. I realize their are potential health benefits, but no eating habit is a sure fire way of avoiding disease. Thanks!

My bf and I are thinking about becoming vegetarians, we have a 9 month old daughter and want her to be as healthy as possible because diabetes, heart disease, thyroid, and obesity run in my family. We just have no idea how to get started. I am not a chef by any means but my bf cooks sometimes, know any good recipes or sites with them?
Here is what we do know: vegetarians can eat vegis, fruits, nuts , beans, rice, noodles ,and some eat milk, eggs, and fish.
that seems kinda hard. how do you eat out?
Also is it more expensive? We spend around 300 a month on groceries and that is all we can afford. I would imagine having to keep your fridge stocked with fresh fruit and veg. gets expensive!

As we all know, it is immoral to eat meat. However, if I am a vegan and I dated someone who ate meat, would that make me just as bad as him? Would that also make me a murderer?

i've always wanted to be a vegetarian coz i'm pro defending animal rights and i feel terrible knowing so many animals are being slaughtered or exploited daily on our bahalf. unfortunately, so far, i have only managed to be a semi-vegetarian. i dont eat beef, pork or seafood. but my mother is worried that if i dont consume certain products (like dairy or meat) i will become malnurished and thus be much less healthy than i would have been by having a balanced diet based on ALL things that are edible.

what i'm asking basically is: can i be healthy (NOT skinny - coz i'm an athlete) and be vegan at the same time? how can i accomplish to get all the proteins and vitamins by body needs without taking suplimentary pills (i dont like the thought of having something sinthetic in my body)? are soy, rice, etc products really as healthy as the real thing?

i appreciate the help. i dont want to have to quit on my whole belief system, but i'm afraid if it means i become anaemic, i'll have to...
