hi, im thinking about going vegan because ive seen the videos on chooseveg.com and was repulsed by not only the cruelty but also the fact that i am eating something in filthy and inhumane conditions. also cause i read somewhere that eliminating saturated fats (found in dairy and meat) from your diet will help clear skin..
also i know that a good vegan diet is really healthy and i care a lot about my health.
basically does anybody know of good vegan recipes and meal ideas, cause i know this will take planning (something i am very good at) and a committed attitude.
thanks in advance!

GO VEG! you know... not eating meat just makes you feel better and you will love it (i think it is fun). ok so! some of my favorite things to do for meals are-

tempeh (its a dry soy product) cooked with mexican spices and then wrapped in a tortilla and then grilled. have some avocado on the side and some vegan sour cream.

vitasoy makes a delicious chocolate banana soy milk you should try.

consider almond milk... it has such a light flavor i love it.

portobello caps are so hearty and filling. especially with a balsalmic dressing

vegan egg rolls!

you are not limited at all, and you will be perfectly healthy just remember to eat beans and drink soy milk. if you are feeling a little sluggish, you can buy a vegan protein supplement in any health store. best of luck and remember to have fun with it.

i'm an ovo-lacto vegetarian. i could be vegan if eggs have been less difficult to sidestep and that i did no longer love cheese plenty, yet I consume the two sparingly. I consistently look to have extra power when I take a B-12 pill. nutrition B-12 is the only nutrient that a vegan on a balanced weight loss software has to difficulty approximately. There are in basic terms 3 supplies of B-12 attainable to a vegan: ingredients to food that does no longer in any different case contain B-12 (including soy milk or bread), pills (or photos), and bacteria. I even have further up all the B-12 that i could get by way of food ingredients in a common day. It would not attain a hundred% of the minimum daily allowance. If somebody is attentive to a mix of ingredients that does grant a hundred%, enable's pay attention it. in case you strengthen your own vegetables, you will get all the B-12 you elect by no longer scrubbing them too plenty in the previous cooking. The bacteria interior the soil have various of B-12 and as long by using fact the vegggies have been grown organically, a splash airborne dirt and dust is truthfully reliable for you. the only useful decision i'm attentive to is pills

Three words: Vegan Freak Radio. These podcasts are the BEST; intellegent and entertaining. It is because of my listening to them that I made the transition from lacto-vegetariansm (as I had been for about four years) to vegansim. It's not hard to be vegan! All of the spouting of nonsense above is just that, nonsense! Fruits, vegetables, beans/legumes, and grains are more than adequate to provide good nutrition to optimize health. The only thing to "worry" about is B-12 which soymilk is fortified, nutritional yeast contains, and is always available in vegan vitamin form. Educate yourself on nutrition (which I'd also reccomend to all those who made the bullshit claim that it's in any way difficult for vegans to obtain an adequate amount of protein, it's nearly impossible to be short on protein if one eats a reasonably balaced diet with a correspodingly adequate caloric intake). The books "Becoming Vegan" and "Vegan Freak:being vegan in a nonvegan world," are great places to start. The Post Punk Kitchen forums are great too if you want to read and explore a bit. The Physicians for Responsible Medicine is also a fantastic resource. I hope this helps! There are so many nice, understanding people on vegan forums who would be more than willing to help you with your transition, but the bottom line is that you should (as all people, vegan, vegetarian, and omni alike should) be nutritionally aware and well-versed, then you can refute any stupidity that comes your way.

Good for you!

For nutritional information: www.vrg.org
For recipes: www.vegweb.com
Compassion Over Killing also has a minibooklet of easy vegan recipes (www.cok.net).

There are tons of great veg*an cookbooks out there, too.

However, there are plant foods that have saturated fat (like chocolate *sob*), but you'll be eating less if you go vegan. And you won't be consuming any cholesterol, as it's found strictly in animal products.

And don't worry about protein. As long as you eat take in enough calories, and you don't eat a junk food diet, you will absolutely get enough protein. In fact, even some veg*ans get more protein than they really need.

I feel the same way but not ready for full vegan status... Vegetarian dishes however can be delicious but they aren't something that you throw in the microwave. You have to be willing to cut and chop and buy or grow. Talks cheap..

Tonite I had a Rachael Ray recipe called eggplant rollups from, herbs and peppers from my patio garden and purchased eggplant, cheese, tomato sauce etc. I eliminated the slice of ham. It took me about an hour before it went into the oven. What came out was delicious and would rival the taste of any dish made from dead animal flesh. Even my dad who would eat the side off a cow before they killed it thought it was wonderful.

Hey, all the meat eaters, get the hell out of this category. She wasn't asking you the question, ya bunch of bovine growth hormone laden assholes. You don't see the vegans answering questions in your category: Crap eaters.

Honey, first of all you will have to deal with people who don't know that they are eating crap (meat eaters). There are tons of great vegan recipes online and there are tons of great cook books. It is easy and very healthy to be a vegan. Check out some books by Dr. Neil Barnard and John Robbins. Vegetarian Times has some great recipes too. You will feel so much better eating healthy foods.

first off, don't watch those videos. showing the videos is just as bad as hurting them. would you like it if you were filmed being killed, and then the whole world saw it while you watched from above? its still exploiting animals. and to find food, go to the whole foods store and ask an employee for vegan foods. oh and if you ask them how to cook vegan meals, they'll most likely know because a lot of people who work there are vegans.

I am omnivore, but less by choice and more out of need. Please trust me when I say this. (or is it write this)? Anyway.
I rather not eat meat. But it fills me better. More often then not I feel repulsed to eat meat. I rather eat chicken given a choice. Besides, everything taste like chicken. LOL.
But my wife, my granddaughter and I rather not eat meat. But the cost of vegetables is outrageous. I started a vegetable garden this year, but here it is in August and frost is killing some of my plants.
While I totally support vegetarians, please understand a little where I am coming from on this point of view. We have deliberately limited ourselves to fish and chicken when it comes to eating the other food group.
One last confession here. While I do hate milk, I have an addiction to cheese. I only hope that there is cheese in Heaven. LOL
If you are going vegan, best of luck. You'll get a lot of support from those that are true vegetarians. But not from me, as to give advice that is. I'm still working at it. Sorry.

there is a section called "hundreds of recipes" on the site you saw the videos on (chooseveg.com).
http://www.chooseveg.com/vegan-recipes.asp

and a free vegetarian starter kit available on the site as well.
http://www.mercyforanimals.org/vegan-starter-kit.aspx

why not check those out?

they also have a guide to vegan friendly restaurants.
http://www.chooseveg.com/vegan-restaurants.asp

be safe and good luck.

Good luck, it is NOT easy being a vegan. I am not one, but my friend is and I just don't know how she does it. She says she would not have it any other way, and has been a vegan for a VERY long time now. A book that inspired me to look into the vegetarian life choice, which has rules that are not as strict as a Vegan, was called "when elephants weep" by Jeffery Moussaieff Masson. This book will give you inspiration to stick with your choice. It is not about vegans or vegetarians, it is about animals and their emotional life. Good luck again, this choice is not easy but it IS possible.
