Do you consider alcohol ok in a vegan diet? Or is veganism also concerned with maintaining a sober lifestyle?

I'm a new vegetarian. On a food packet it says "vegetable and/or animal shortenings" is this ok to eat? How do I know if its the "and" or the "or"?

Recent history has shown that, when one group tries to supplant or supplement another, either group declines and fails, or both groups fail. Perhaps we've reached a new day in the consciousness and presence of vegetarians, and certainly NO group or set of organizers/administrators/values can appeal to all persons practicing vegetarian diets any more than PETA does or could speak for all pro-animal vegetarians.

Imagine you decide to become a vegan after years of being a vegetarian. You go into your shower and discover that your shampoo contains an animal byproduct. Do you throw it away immediatley because of your vegan lifestyle?

Consider this information before answering:

1. The shampoo has already been bought. The company already has the financial benefit from that shampoo. Whether you use it or not makes no difference to the animals or the industry.

2. Being as the animal has already been killed, wouldn't it be considered dying in vanity to throw it out?

Or would you throw it out anyway solely because of the ethics, even after pondering the previous statements.

Think about it, when some one raises catle as a food source...
1st They wait till that cattle has mattured... 2nd they let it yield offspring... 3rd The cattle raises that offspring untill it can survive on its own. and Finally the origanal cow or whatever, is, for lack of better wording, slughtered and sold. This insures that the line does not brake. Do vegitarians not cut greens or in my opinion (something that IS LIVING and FULL OF LIFE), from the ground, thus killing the origanal life soucre making way for more life to stem off, in turn only to feed their bellies like the rest of the meat/seafood/produce/dairy/fuit loving world???

Do you know how lobsters are cooked? The poor things are put into boiling water, while they are still alive and kicking! Lobsters should be banned, unless there is another way to cook them.

Both the vegans I know are pro-choice. This doesn't make sense to me. How can you be opposed to killing a chicken fetus (egg) but be ok with killing a human fetus.

I am pro choice, I also eat meat. I can understand how they fit together. I can understand how one can be pro-life and have no problem eating meat. I can respect someone is pro-life and vegan (although I disagree with them on both points) but for the life of me I can not figure out how you reconcile being pro-choice and vegan. Please explain how you reconcile the apparent hypocracy.

I read online where they said it is healthier to eat whole fresh fruits and vegetables. It said not to eat cooked food or processed food because it is not natural. It said cooked food is not pure.

Has anyone else noticed that when you take vitamins, it changes the color from clear with a yellowish tint to a dark yellow. Why do vitamins do that and does that mean your kidneys are being overloaded?

I've been completely vegan about a week now (WOO! =D) and I just realized that I can't eat cakes, cookies etc. because they are made with eggs and milk!
Does anyone know where I could get baked goods made with vegan ingredients?
Or does anyone have any recipes I could use for cakes cookies etc.?
Thanks

I really want to be healthier and i fully understand the human body wasn't designed to eat animal products. The problem is i love meat, milk and cheese. I was brought up on the stuff. I really want to cut these things out of my diet bc i know how great id feel if i did. So whats the best way to ease into veganism?

I am a new vegan of 2 months, and am loving it by the way!!
but I am wondering if cutting out all the meats & dairy can make me be more sensitive to caffiene?
I ask this because I am a recovering Coke-a-cola addict, and now am on a limit of 3 cans a week.. usually I have one can on friday with my lunch, one on sat and one sunday.. But last night I had a can with dinner because I had missed sundays ration and felt it complitmented my yummy meal.. Well I could not get to sleep that night.. I was still wide awake at 3am.. and this never happens to me... and the only thing that I could think of to be keeping me awake was the can of coke?? your thoughts??

i am looking for ungrounded salt rocks in the shape of a cube. they must be a true cube. this salt must be edible for humans, i am not going to take a bath with it. i plan on grinding it and giving it away as a gift.

if you post links for whole salt rocks in the shape of a rectangular prism, i will report you. also if you post links for whole salt rocks in the shape of a trapezoidal prism... i will report you. don't waste my time.

Would you eat meat that was ethically produced, if it did not require an animal to be hurt or killed? Check this link and let me know your thoughts. This is probably the meat of the future as scientists are busily at work on it.

I've been a vegetarian for a little while now and I'm pregnant, I didn't get enough protein cause I'm VERY picky so I started eating meat again to get protein (I plan on becoming vegetarian again as soon as I deliver my baby). Around the same time I started eating meat I started becoming nauseous.. But not throwing up. How do I know if it's b/c of meat or b/c of morning sickness?
