I am a new vegan of 2 months, and am loving it by the way!!
but I am wondering if cutting out all the meats & dairy can make me be more sensitive to caffiene?
I ask this because I am a recovering Coke-a-cola addict, and now am on a limit of 3 cans a week.. usually I have one can on friday with my lunch, one on sat and one sunday.. But last night I had a can with dinner because I had missed sundays ration and felt it complitmented my yummy meal.. Well I could not get to sleep that night.. I was still wide awake at 3am.. and this never happens to me... and the only thing that I could think of to be keeping me awake was the can of coke?? your thoughts??

Coca-Cola is a hideous corporation. Did you know that once Coke moved a plant to a small town in India and basically destroyed the towns water supply, making many people sick, and making the water undrinkable?

And because of their wonderful marketing team, and their sponsorship of numerous large sporting events and other events, Coke has been able to grow to the status of one of the worlds largest companies, when they manufacture little more than carbonated sugar water.

Apparently you have taken the step of eliminating your dependence on animals for food, and there must have been at least a shred of reasoning which makes you believe that animals should not be eaten, so it should not be difficult for you to eliminate Coke as well, due to the company's history and bad corporate policies.

Quit drinking Coca-Crapola!

As we eat and consume things we get used to them, if you have been drinking lots of soda you have probably been under a constant caffeine and sugar load for a while.

The constant use would build up a tolerance, you wouldn't notice the effects as much. cutting back has probably decreased your tolerance.

Honestly, i dont know how anyone can consume a can of coke, the longer i go not having it the worst it tastes.

i find sucrose to be quite disgusting :/

also my body's blood sugar levels are not something that i want to mess with. spikes and dips in the levels can cause all sorts of problems like jitteryness, tiredness, irritability, depression, loss of focus...

blood sugar plays a part in regulating the states of the human nervous system.

too much sugar at the wrong time (during the day) can push you into a rest state which is only really meant to be happening after a big meal, to kick the digestive system into gear.

not to mention the constant toxic load on the liver and kidneys.

I dont mind caffiene, but not alot and certainly not at night. i also dont mind sugar, but not alot and certainly not during the day.

this places soda firmly out of my diet :/

coffee without sugar (honey if you really need it) is about all i drink.

I'm a vegetarian and I drink plenty of coffee somewhat of a coffee addict no ones perfect! Coffee has plenty of caffeine but doesn't affect me except that sometimes I have to take valerian to get to sleep cause of drinking too much coffee, Other than that I got no problem with caffeine so I would say vegetarians and probably vegans are not sensitive to caffeine. I'm also a Pepsi drinker not a Coca-Cola drinker except when Pepsi isn't available and in mood for cola. I'm more of a root beer drinker when it comes to pop!

being vegan should make no difference.
2 very possible factors:
1) your body is not used to the caffiene and it reacted to it by keeping you awake.
2) placebo affect, your mind knew you drank caffiene on a night when you didn't usually and kept you awake.

most likely a combination of both...you started out being kept awake by the caffiene, then your mind kicked in and amplified the affect.

I haven't noticed a change in my caffeine sensitivity. But I have stopped drinking most conventional sodas because I'm trying to reduce my consumption of HFCS, and now hate the way they taste. But I think I consume less caffeine than I used to because I typically have rooibos or an herbal infusion with dinner instead of regular tea.

Yes it can be a factor. As your system becomes cleaner it also becomes more sensitive.
Many people do not drink caffeine after lunch even non-vegans. Smoe people who could deal with it when they were younger can not as they age.
Best test cut it out 100% for a few weeks & then drink it again & see.
