I need some good, reliable sources. Books, magazines, websites, etc to study the next month to make sure I do this the right way and to make sure I don't fail because I'm not doing it right. I appreciate any suggestions.

best of luck with it.

try the veggie society. thier on-line stuff is free and they have some great advice for new veggies. There also have sections for teens, young veggies and thier parents if those subjects are of interest to you

There have an on-line guide to going and staying veggie called "food for Thought". they are really easy to read, not heavy or preachy, just simple help.

Try starting here:
http://www.vegsoc.org/newveg/

This page also has much about the stumbing blocks and hidden animal foods to look for:

best of luck with it, make sure you get a balance of veggies, fruit, nuts, cereals etc and you'll find you have no need for any supplements.

Be sure to let us know how you get on with it

Peta.org and Peta2.com are really good ones. You can also just search in google for specific stuff you wanna know, like if certain foods are vegetarian.

Before October comes, you might want to start cutting back on the meat little by little so its not difficult. Otherwise, suddenly stopping eating half of the food you normally eat will be really hard and you might cheat on your diet.

Good luck and congrats on becoming vegetarian!!

For magazines, I recommend VegNews, Satya, and Herbivore. These have recipes, news, tips, and just give you a sense of the big, great community we have out there.

As for books, I too recommend "The Food Revolution" by John Robbins. It was his book that made me take the leap from vegetarian to vegan. It is extremely well-researched and informative. It is also good ammo for when your family and friend try to give you a bunch of misinformation. Good luck!

in addition to the resources on the web (just type in "vegetarian" in your search engine), i recommend reading. "the food revolution" and "diet for a new america" are both awesome books by the ever-so-brave john robbins. "the china study" by t. colin campbell provides an in-depth look at the effects animal products has on the body... it's good for defending your beliefs against all the people who will tell you you're going to be malnourished... ha ha. "skinny *****" is another book that has gotten much acclaim. i have yet to read it, but i managed to skim through it once, and i absolutely loved what was in there. the authors, kim barnouin and rory freedman, are very blunt and humorous.

for recipes, try:
vegweb.com and vegkitchen.com

the more you read, the more informed you will be. best wishes! :)

Been a vegeterian could be for health/spiritual or social reasons which one are you?
Another thing if you have eaten meats for years and you are around people who eat meat the tempetation would be bad for you.
For me it was from childhood(meaning as long as I had the sence to choose what I consumed) and then became spiritual. thing, hope this helps and good luck.
If you were in my town I would whip you p some veggies dshes from common sence.i HAVE NEVER USED BOOKS OR RECIPIES.... Been a vegeterian is not that hard its the disipline of the self.

I don't know of many specific books but I would suggest eating things you love that are meatless. Unless you feel you can commit without letting your mind overtake your control of the situation, then start small and eat the meatless things you enjoy, then proceed to explore.
