I am constantly clearing my throat *numerous* times per day, mainly after or while eating but this also occurs after bathing and at other times through the day. I feel the need to do this because I don't have a clear passage way and have trouble breathing if I don't.

What could be causing this problem and what treatments could I get to help?

Additional information:

I am so tired of this. I have not always had this problem. I think it may have started about 10 years ago when I cut out meat.

I don't smoke and never have.

I eat soy products very rarely. I have soymilk with cereal but it's like a couple days out of the month. I may eat "mock" meats like every couple months or so. I eat a lot of dairy and anything else I want MINUS the meat.

It's probably the dairy. Dairy products stimulate mucus production. Try going vegan for a week and see if it clears up! If not, see your doctor because it's something else. Dairy related problems should clear up within 5-7 days after stopping dairy consumption.

Certainly allergies can cause those symptoms. A very simple way to tell is an elimination diet;
Do not eat Dairy. Stay of of it 2 or 3 weeks, to let your system clear out. Then eat it again. See if there is a reaction.
Dairy is a very common allergy.
The other side of this Dairy is very Mucus causing even if you are not allergic to it.

Probably environmental allergies. Sinus drainage I have that myself. I have chronic sinusitis it's a never ending problem... Get some Chlorex_A or other prescription medication. Over the counter doesn't work !! Although there are food and dairy allergies, don't use dairy for a month and see if there is any difference.

Check with a doctor but it could be allergies/your sinuses. Sometimes when I eat spicy foods it opens my sinuses and a hot bath/shower can do that too. Dairy-milk, cheese, ice cream can make sinuses worse.

I doubt it's milk. It could be a habit you've developed. But I think you shoudl see a doctor, probably an ENT. You coudl be having something as simple as gastric reflux or something more complicated like a thryroid tumor in your neck, making you feel constricted. Get it checked out.

I have the same thing when I drink milk or eat ice cream. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with having asthma.
