Ok so I have been wanting to become a vegetarian for a long time cause I watched a movie on how they killed animals in the slaughter house and hated it so decided to take a stand, but found it hard to take my mind off of meat(mostly chicken) how can I get into becoming a vegetarian without having the cravings, and is this really a good thing?

I want to switch from Vegetarian ((1 year so far)) to Vegan, but I haven't really tried Vegan food, and my mom thinks that it will be best for me to wait until I turn sixteen or seventeen ((I am fourteen)). Do you think that I should try it, or wait a few more years before experimenting?

Six months ago I gave up red meat. I still ate fish and chicken. Two days ago I decided to become a vegetarian, for health reasons. I will still continue to eat dairy and eggs.
What I want to know is if I need to take any vitamins or supplements?

Child 2 is raised by a vegan/vegetarian parents but the child gets to eat chops, chicken, steak and pork . Anyway child 1 does not know any different and eats their beans, tofu, lentil stews, vegetarian pasties, tomatoe and onion flans, etc ( there are 1000s of satisfying vegan and vegetarian dishes using a range of food groups. CHild 2 reaches 7 and is asking questions as to why their parents do not eat meat and he eats meat and then child 2 finds out that meat comes from animals and that they are killed for meat. The horror is apparent so child 2 says I why do I have to eat meat when you all don't eat meat? I love anaimals and why do I want to eat them. Which parent is right the parents of child 1 or the parents of child 2. and one more thing child 1 does not get food poisoning from meat as he does not eat it but child 2 has had several bouts of food poisoning due to the chops being a bit off at the butchers and the chicken meat sitting in blood at the deli. What do you think?

Can hummus not have any protein? I always thought it had to contain protein, however the Basha Original hummus from Costco indicates 0 grams of protein per serving.
Does anyone out there know about this?

How about the Vegan/vegetarian section? A committed vegan/vegetarian can post a question or view at how appalled they are about the killing of animals (like I did last week) and it was removed because it offended meat eaters. What are committed meat eaters in the vegan/vegetarian forum unless they just wish to argue? I have just seen the results of non vegans/vegetarians being outraged at a vegan parent question and I am bamboozled because the vegan/vegetarian forum is there for committed vegans and vegetarians and those who wish to be so why the outrage from meat eaters. If you are not vegan or vegetarian or the food choices of others offend you why come over to a vegan/vegetarian forrum? Why not stay in cooking? I am reading such hateful comments by meat eaters who if unhappy report the convictions of vegans/vegetarians and get their questions removed. Why? Whay can't a committed Vegan/Vegetarian ask a question is a like forrum like this one without being attacked by others ?

I've heard some of you do.

I don't understand - you smell because you don't wash or have poor hygene not because of what you eat.

[not trying to offend anyone here]

Do you go telling your "meat-eating" friends that they are cold blooded murderers?

Everytime your "meat-eating" friends eat chicken do you give them dirty looks and give them a lecture about how eating meat is wrong?

Just a thought - No rude answers please.

I asked this question before and the answers I got seemed to assume that the brand of pork rinds I had didn't have protein. But the thing reads, for serving size 8 rinds, 8 grams of protein, which is certainly a significant amount. So why does it say next to 8 grams, "not a significant source of protein?"

All throughout the board here, there are many "thumbs-downs" given and arguing over the many degrees of vegetarianism. Like it or not, not everyone is the same and not everyone eats the same thing. Some people include fish/seafood in their vegetarian diets while others believe in the all or nothing; no animals of any kind.

Here is a list to educate everyone on the many degrees of vegetarianism:

Veganism - Do not eat animals of any kind as well as dairy products; nothing from animals whatsoever

Ovo-Vegetarianism - No eating animals but will eat eggs, no daity products.

Lacto Vegetarianism - No eating animals or eggs but do eat dairy products.

Ovo-lacto Vegetarianism - No eating animals but do eat eggs as well as dairy.

The other kinds of vegetarian diets are:

Pescetarianism - No eating meat except for fish and seafood.

Pollotarianism - No red meat, they eat poultry as well as fish.

Flexitarianism - Usually consume both vegetable and meat diets
