Well, how big is the serving and what are the significant figures? A bit of math here (sorry). Many of the commercial spread/dip brands use only one significant figure to save space, which means they round it off to the nearest whole number. This means that the hummus could contain as much as 0.49 g protein per serving, but it would be rounded to zero.
Besides, though chickpeas are fairly high in protein, they are not as high as other legumes, like peanuts, soybeans or kidney beans. Garlic and olive oil can reduce the protein content further.

hummus is made from beans and beans have protein so yes hummus has protein. The Sabra hummus might have a lot of other stuff in there or...the numbers are for a small portion. Many foods portion sizes on the food label are either oddly low or very high. Check how big the portion sizes are. I just looked on the Sabra site and it lists the portion size as 2 tablespoons has 2 grams of protein. I also checked a couple of diet sites and their hummus is also listed as about 1 gram of protein per tablespoon. Thats not a lot of protein but then 2 tablespoons of hummus is not a heck of a lot either.

It might just be a very small serving size. The kind I buy is only a tablespoon per serving, and has something like 1 or 2 grams of protein per serving.
It might also have other flavouring agents that act like filler - for instance, red pepper hummus has less protein than plain.
Also, I found Basha's original hummus on the Daily Plate, and it lists the protein as 3 grams per 1 oz. serving.

Hummus is made from chick peas.garbanzos with as far as I can tell have 7 g of protein per serving.
So maybe Costco hummus is made from unknown ingredients?

Hummus is traditionally made from chick peas (garbanzos) so it is high protein.
I don't why the "Basha Original Hummus" would have that on the label unless it's made from something other than chick peas.
