Generally, gravy is made with a meat base.

However, you could make gravy with non-animal based flavorings, I suppose.

Gravy is rarely vegetarian. Typically it's made with meat drippings and/or broth. If you want vegetarian gravy for your potatoes and vegetables, you'll have to make your own. If your idea of cooking means "add water and stir," Hain makes a pretty good packaged brown gravy (their chicken gravy has milk in it).

Not if any of the ingredients in it came from an animal. So beef, turkey, chicken, pork and other such gravies aren't vegetarian. A white gravy can be made without using anything from an animal.

It can be. The trick is to not use any milk, meat or meat fat in your gravy. This can be done using a vegetable oil for the fat, vegetable stock and seasonings for your base. When I have been extremely poor I have made gravy out of just flour or cornstarch, oil, and water with a few spices. It can be done and have it taste good too.

Only some types of gravy are vegetarian and if you use stock in your gravy you can just use vegetable stock but i usually eat plain onion or other vegetable and spiced gravies usually at resteraunts they aren't though.

It depends on how you prepare it. I make a gravy out of mushrooms and onions browned in olive oil, a pinch of garlic (optional) add water or veg stock. You can thicken with soy flour. Season to taste. It's really delicious.

Yes . You can just make it from hot canola oil and once the oil is very hot add flour and keep stirring until the oil/flour mixture is brown and slowly add water to get great vegetarian gravy. You don't have to add meat drippings. If you need a recipe just email me.

Most gravy does, but there are some types of gravy out there that are vegetarian/vegan.

Most gravy is made with chicken broth.
I would just rely on reading labels.
Tofurkey makes a mushroom gravy that is vegan, and totally delicious!
