I have a roommate that has been cooking something in a crock-pot for over 5 days now. I remember my mother using one when I was a kid but it was rarely for 12 hours or more. I'm just nervous of a fire hazard and of course the smell of this thing cooking 24/7 has the whole house smelling like this and I'm sure it's going to drive any rodents crazy to get into the house to find out where this smell is coming from. I'd ask her outright but she's not a very easy person to deal with. I just thought I'd get some feedback to see if my worries are valid or not. Thanks! Jamie

I am in the process of putting a book together for people who are on benefits or low income, I think that it is much cheaper and healthier to cook food from scratch, from breads and soups to cakes and puddings, I want to include recipes for meals that cost under £2.00 per day per person for 3 meals. No packets or pre bought sauces. preferably not to difficult.

I will use puff pastry, and I need like a clotted cream, or cream cheese type base, then cherry compote, puff pastry top, whipped cream, and drizzled chocolate. I want to use whipped cream, cream cheese, and maybe sweetened condensed milk??
Can I whip the cream till almost butter, then mix in the sweetened condensed milk? I'll spread on the puff pastry then top?

I don't like to reheat if I can avoid it, so if I have leftovers from a meal, I'll leave it out for a couple hours and then eat it.

How long can I leave different types of food out? I imagine also I should cover it in seran wrap or something. What's the best way to cover the food?

Hello! I have never made chili in my life. However, there is a chili contest in my town. My brother entered and almost won last year. So, I want to compete with him. I need an AMAZING recipe...but something that's somewhat easy to make. Also, hopefully it won't have a bunch of hard to find, expensive ingredients. i found a bunch of recipes...but they are really complex and expensive.

Please help and send your answers right away!!! Thanks so much!!!

We have a lot of cans of pumpkin sitting downstairs, and I was trying to think of a way to use them. The less sugar, the better, by the way.

A friend has asked me to translate her late grandmother's recipe book so she can make some of the recipes she remembers from her childhood. She is not an experienced cook and the recipes list just the ingredients with minimal (sometimes no) cooking directions. At least 20 of the cake recipes call for Roman meal. Apart from a company manufacturing health bars/cereals I can find no reference to Roman meal on Internet. I assume that it is some sort of flour or other grain product. It could be simply a brand name for a generic product. My friend lives in USA and I grew up in Australia so it may just be that Roman meal is a US brand name for a familiar product. I wrote to my friend but neither she nor her mother could tell me what Roman meal is/was. I am keen to help my friend with her recipes but at this stage I can't do much with the recipes calling for Roman meal. I would be very grateful for any further information on this mystery ingredient.

Can you skip the marshmallows or do you HAVE to use them?

Also, what kind of cocoa do you recommend? Every time I go to the store to get cocoa for making cakes, all I see is UNSweetened cocoa. Where the heck do I get sweetened cocoa? Been to like 4 grocery stores.
