I was just wondering if balsamic vinegar is healthy or not? I cook with it all the time and I put it on just about everything. Is it bad for me?

What do culinary students learn from, what books?

Every basic book i find, is just a bunch of recipies, Id like to know the fundamentals of cooking, whats happening and why etc.

Any ideas?

I'm making corned beef and cabbage for some people. The only vinegar I have here is some werid heinz apple cider vinegar. I'm pretty sure the stuff my grandma uses is red. What do I look for at the grocery store? Or is what I have ok?

I have a question for those who watched tonight's Iron Chef Am (with morimoto)...

I missed what Alton Brown said about how the Iron Chef made those beet pearl-like things (to resemble fish eggs).... he put the beet mixture in a bowl of water with what chemicals? I am really interested in this and it is just driving me crazy!!!!

and how about the challenger...playing with liquid nitrogen with bare hands. whoa. lol

What am I doing wrong? When I try to peel the egg, the shell sticks to the white and I end up throwing the egg out....

Could someone give me a NO FAIL egg-boiling recipe? I mean, they have tried it and the shell doesn't stick to the white? thanks!

Here's what I have:


Fruit- Oranges, Grapefruit, Strawberries, Apples

Grains- Oatmeal, Cheerios, Whole Grain bread

Meat- Lunchmeat, Nuts

Dairy- Yogurt, Soy milk, Cheese


Can you put a combination together to help me decide what to have? Thanks.

...that I haven't used yet, I save it in a container and the next day I bake it.
The dough isn't as nice and think as it was the day before, and after baking it, it's not fluffy and as fresh.
How do I keep it fresh and fluffy as if I just opened it?

they were out of mild rotel at the grocery store, so i got the extra hot. i used 1lb of velveeta, 1 can of extra hot rotel, and 1lb of ground beef, but the dip is just too spicy. Is there anything i can do to calm down the heat of it?

I normally start with OJ, then add a carton of vanilla yogurt, and add some frozen fruit (mango, strawberries, banana), then blend til smooth.

Do you have any suggestions/recipes/ideas for additional ingredients, and/or ingredients that go well together for healthy, non-alcoholic, smoothie drinks (esp for breakfast or afternoon snacks)?

Also, any other thoughts of quick, healthy foods that are easy to make and eat/drink on the run?
