My sister (who is well off) Ask to be booked at the hotel where my daughter's reception will be held a YEAR ago. The place is old and I think elegant. The reception costs are now at 18K. Well, she looked at the reviews of the rooms on Yahoo and 2 out of the 12 said the rooms were old and awful, the remaining were OK . Yesterday I called to confirm with her and she started SCREAMING at me that she will NOT stay in a flea bag place. I was so embarrassed and I said she didn't have to stay there but kept yelling about how could we have picked a place so bad. My daughter would be so HURT if she heard this.
My youngest daughter, her sister, died 3 years ago and We want this day to be extra special for her. I was so upset all day. My husband called her and disinvited her and told her to take her condescending behavior and park it. Did we do the right thing?
BTW I sent her flowers for her birthday last year and she called YELLING at me how awful they were, they were "near dead".

We had already planned our date out. It is special to us b/c it is our anniversary. His best friend and his fiancee decided to come with us and get married to. They could not pick a date. We had our date since we got engaged. He suggested to his friend that they get married on the same day, but earlier i nthe day to save resources and time during the vacation. We are there for a week. I feel like my wedding is tainted now and not as special since they will be getting married the same day as us. He does not understand how special a wedding should be and not have them getting married on the same day as us. He said they have already printed the date on their invitations and so have we, why should they change? Should I have to get used to the fact of them getting married on "our day?" How can this be fixed?

I would like to know about the meaning of Anniversary gifts, I have heard that each year represents something (paper, wool, leather, silver, etc) thus, one should give something in this material to the loved one... Does anyone out there know these meanings?? Does anyone have cool ideas on what I should give. Our first wedding anniversary is in 10 days, and I need ideas!!!
Thanks so much!

my friend always said she wanted me to be bridesmaid if she ever got married.
i then set her up with one of my oldest friends, they hit it off and are getting married next year :)
she decided not to ask me to be bridesmaid, didn't tell me, instead told me about her bridesmaids that she did choose.
then my other friends hassled her for not involving me in the wedding, so now she's trying to make it up to me by randomly selecting tasks for me to do so I'll feel "involved". Tasks like ushering, speeches, driving her car etc.
I'd much rather be a guest and enjoy myself. I've told her so, but she's very persistent.
would you be upset by this?

the more she tries to make it up to me, the more i want to chuck a sickie on her wedding and not attend at all. it feels like a kick in the teeth.

** by the way, I have been bridesmaid before and am NOT KEEN to do it again. I'm not having bridesmaids for my upcoming wedding either.

I'm curious about this. See, I already told him I don't want anything expensive and I don't really wear rings often anyways. Would it be odd, or wrong, or is it required somehow to just have one ring? It's the one he would propose with. It seems that would be the most special one ever I don't need another.

I am soo stuck as to what centrepiece to have for my wedding! I don't want any flowers or any candles (they are soo monotonous!). Anyone have any ideas? Or perhaps some websites?

I like glass, crystals and that sort of thing. I would like something smart yet simple. Please help!

My friend is planning her wedding and in lieu of favors she plans on making a donation to a local charity she supports. She's not sure how much she should give as a donation. She doesn't want give to little, but can't afford to give enough.

She has 150 guests and wants to make a $2 donation each. That will be a total of a $300 donation. She asked me if that was good enough. But, I don't know myself.

My gift has to relate to what people do at 9:00 in the morning. What do you do at 9:00 in the morning? If you are still sleeping then, do you have any ideas on what I could use?

I know this might sound dumb, but is it customary for the bride and groom to pay for the airfare of people who attend their wedding? It seems that since I was the one who chose a foreign country to get married, why should I expect people to fish out $$$ to go to the wedding. But also, for all those people who do destination weddings, it seems like it would cost a LOT to fly a bunch of people somewhere if it is customary to do so. Can someone who's gone through this help me?!

BTW the wedding would be held in Ireland or Scotland and the guests (immediate friends and family, very small gourp of maybe 15-20) would be flying in from the US.

my x has been my x for 9 years, we have a child 10 yrs old...x married 7 years ago & if it wasn't for her, my son wouldn't be in their lives...so, needless to say, I am greatful to her & she is an awesome mom to my son when he stays w/ them. I can talk to her on the phone, go places together, hang at soccer games, and we have both introduced mutual friends to one another. When they got married they verbally invited me, but, now it's my turn, 8 years later... should I invite? My finacee doesn't care because he isn't intimidated by my x because my fiancee & I are happy in love & he is happy w/ his wife, who I would consider almost a friend...we were never friends before they met: I didn't know her till they married. I dunno, kinda wierd to post on this, but wanted to hear opinions...I honestly don't care if they there or not, just trying to get along in every aspect & show my son just that.

I think you all are used to me and my marriage crises by now. However for those of you whom are reading this for the first time, my hubby and I have been unhappily married for 11 months and have consumated our relationship only once because he lives in Atlanta and I in New York temporarily until my contract at work expires this Summer. In the meantime, he has stated that the reasons why he's been elusive is due to my weight gain and lack of culinary skills. My self-esteem has hit an all time low and I am trying to regain it back because I know that I am a good looking woman whom can cook and take very good care of my persoanl appearance.

A close friend that works with me is getting married. I have only known them for a short period of time. They have been like an extended family to us. I would like to get something special they both can appreciate. If this helps they are a young power couple.

Thanks in advance!
