Family - November 2007

I'm a single mother that works from 6pm to 6am Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and my mother watches my 2 year old son during the time I work and sleep. The problem is that she need to sleep during Monday morning cause she works on second shift, and all these year I can't keep a wake to watch my son. I make sure he's in a safe place before I fall asleep but I hate it cause I miss out on him half the day. I need so advice on how to stay awake.

He's 11, and he's afraid of the dark! Most of his friends aren't anymore! He used to sleep with his light on, but my dad said, the bills are getting higher, so he's gotta sleep with the lights off from now on. And the instant our folks turn out the light, he makes a run for the door! He says, "Mom, Dad, can I sleep with Tommy? Please?" What do we do? Should I move my stuff to his room? It's always a hastle when he transfers to my room at night, and I'm already on the verge of falling asleep, or I have to talk with my girlfriend on the phone!

My love and I have been through hell and back with each other and both feel that we should just wipe the slate clean and start over, you know.....start new memories to erase the old ones. The problem is, the past always has a way of sneaking up on us and it tries to cause problems. We've both did our share of misbehaving, but we're wiser and more mature now. Nothing would make us happier than acting as if the things that we have dealt with never happened but it is way easier said than done. What are some ways that we can stop ourselves from dwelling on the past. We really love each other and we've both done a lot of growing up. We also have a daughter on the way and we really want to be a loving family. Please help us, what are some ways that you all lost focus on the past?

MY DAD WATCHES PORN and has magazines such as playboy and pent house
and he dls them alot... he has 400 gigs of em
and its so dam irritaitng that he ask me to go out of the room cuz its late at night(10pm) which is so idiotic cuz its most likely that he was going to watch porn... pifft

First off, I'd like to assert that I love my family very much. But I do not love how my eldest sister's 4 and 6 year old kids physically attack me at family events.
My sister's approach to parenting is to let them do as they please because they are just being kids and just ride out the storms untill they grow out of their wild behaviour.
I do not advocate hitting or yelling at them, nor is it my role to discipline them. But lately I find myself dreading attending family gatherings, which otherwise mean the world to me. Their prefered methods of attack are screaming in ears, scratching at eyes, biting fingers and general puncing and kicking. You can imagine my anxiety and frustration as my sister sits there motionless as I am subject to these onslaughts.
I don't want to avoid my relatives but I am not a human punching-bag.
Any suggestions would be appreciated as I have no kids of my own and am worried I might hit back one day, which would go down like a led zeplin

My brother inlaw Matt 19 has always been golden child to my father in law despite fact he is meth head who beats wife, mother, father, has destroyed their home by breaking doors windows and stolen their jewelry,checks, money, he even busted their safe!They always call my hubby to help control him and he always does. But my F.I.L won't let poor Matt take the beating he needs and will wind up defending him. Anyway we had bought a housetrailer and stored it at my inlaws and my hubby found that Matt stole the copper wire out of trailer and sold it for drugs.My hub confronted Matt and the fight starts, which would have been ok, but my F.I.L[275lbs] jumped on my hubbys back before he got lick in and rode him to the ground, and held him in choke hold while Matt kicks him in the face with his boots. Now Matt bragging he beat his brother and F.I.L acts like he did no wrong. Of course hub is hurt by this but we have no solution but to cut ties..what would you do in this situation?

Ok it's very strange. Her and my dad have been married for 25 years, but they aren't close at all. They aren't like all lovey dovey and i don't think i ever hear them say "i love you" to each other. I've never even seen them cuddle or hug. I've come to the conclusion that they don't love each other. Soon my mom is getting cosmetic surgery, she's also always getting manicures and other beauty stuff. She said after the surgery she is going to go to the tanning salon. Why is she trying to look better? I know a lot of her friends are rich so could she be trying to impress them? Or maybe trying to impress my dad (maybe she thinks he will like her better)? Or my worst fear is that she is doing this so that she could have an affair. I dont think this is about her feeling better about her own body image because she isnt a teenager who thinks beauty is about makeup and hair. I'm 17 and even i know real beauty comes from whats inside, i assume that if i know this she does too. So whats going on?

ur mama is so skinny she hula hooped in a cherrio. when u accidently locked ur door u were so skinny that u slipped through the keyhole. ur mom is so ugly that when it was teacher conference ur teacher said sorry no crack heads allowed. ur mama is soo poor when it was cristmas she pretended she was santa and went down peoples chimmneys looking for her little elves (cockroaches) ok i know it isnt funny. ur mamas so stupid she tried to fool my parents that she was santa claus. ur skin is soo rough that our school uses it to sand wood. danm did u forget ur makeup today cause u sure look like a crack head today no offence or anything. did u just break my mirror, no wonder it coulndt stand all that force u got on ur face.

My sister is 18 and about to go to college for violin. I want to learn to play the guitar.
we both need instruents.
She dosen't even want me to learn the guitar.
every time I practice she looks at me and raises one eyebrow and tells me what kind of an idiot I am, and that I can't play to save my life. she dose this with almost everything I do and I feel like she thinks that I'll never succeed in anything I do.

I am 18, and still living at home as I am a senior in high school. I live with my mom and abide by her wishes. I make straight A's, tel her everythign about my life, have never done drugs or smoked a cigarrette or gotten drunk. Unfortunately my mom is a prude and highly protective, so if I want to hang out with friends, she has to talk to the parents first. When she talks, it is more like an iterrogation, and she is always highly paraniod. I would never do anything she doesnt want me to, but when my friends get together on the weekend, and I have to be home by 11, then there isnt much fun I can have. My friends usually hang out until 1 a.m., but I would be fine if I could stay out until 12. I am lucky enough as it is, because she gets angry when I come home at 11. any ideas?

Well I'm 18 years old and in college. I have a really close friend who lives in Georgia while I live in Texas. She recently invited me to stay over her house with her family for a week during winter break (the week before Christmas) I agreed to it. Well I'm still living at home and when I told my father about my plans he told me I'm not allowed to go! I don't know maybe I'm being bratty or something but I see no reason why he shouldn't let me go. I am going to pay for the ticket out of my own pocket. I am 18 and have never gotten in trouble in my life, I'm very trustworthy. I've never done drugs, I've never gotten drunk, I rarely go out with my friends, I barely HAVE any friends, I'm a straight A student. My friend is my age and we've known each other for years now, her family is just like mine and my parents have meet her and her parents many times and they know what a couple of goody goodies we are. How can I make him understand that I'm an adult now?

the father of my 5 year old is an absolute nutcase!! we have joint custody of her and today is his day to have her. I dropped her off at school at 8am and then went home to sleep since i work nites (every Tues,Wed-same schedule for 3 years). My daughter ended up getting sick around 10am. she was throwing up so the school called both me and her dad b/c they couldn't remember which one of us had her today. 10 mins after the school called me, my ex called telling me I had to go pick up my daughter b/c his obligation to her didn't start until 3:30p when she normally gets out of school!! My ringer on my cell is always shut off when I sleep b/c I know it's not my day to have any of my kids. when I wouldn't call him back-he called the school that my other 2 daughters attend and my boyfriend's sister works at and asked for my boyfriend's sister!! he told the receptionist that I lived with my boyfriend and he needed to talk to the sister b/c my daughter was sick and he needed to get ahold of me

I have a younger brother and younger sister. I used to be very close to my sister (she is 23) but she is being quite selfish and I haven't been putting up with it as much.

I live with my fiance. My brother still lives at home. My sister lives with her boyfriend. My brother wants nothing to do with my sister because of how she is acting - she is treating my mother quite bad, just being rude and not caring who she hurts.

For years, I have not worried. My fiance has included her in so many things but it always backfires, so he is sick of it. I am sick of it, too.

Now, my mother thinks that my fiance is preventing my sister and I from having a relationship and he is upset. My mother will always be my mother but she seems to have taken my sister's side, even though she is treating her badly.

I feel like I'm in the middle of this whole situation and I just don't know what to do about it.

I'm sick of talking about it and couldn't care less sometimes. I just want peace.

I need serious answers please! Okay so me and my sister are known are always attached at the side. And we have always been best best best best best best best best friends for my whole life! and no one knows me as me they now me as me and my sister. So she is like the meanest ***** you could ever ask for a sister know and she is like 14. She is so mean to me most of the time and I am losing my mind!!!! well lets start with the beginning i was always my partents favorite(not being mean to my sis) but all of a sudden my sister has been acting like me, talking like me, just being me!!! and now my parents are starting to be all favority with her.
i feel i am jelous and i know i am. but what should i do my sister is imitating me and i want to be me again (if you know what i mean) so is there anything i can do!!!

My step daughter is 13 and my husband recently got her. She grew up in an unstable home. Mom always moved a lot. Sometimes living with other people. Her mother has 4 kids from 3 different fathers..she gave one up for adoption. Her mother likes to go out a lot and she leaves the kids alone with her to babysit. Now she is in a home where we go to church (I'm a Sunday school teacher) with rules. She gets upset when she can't hang with friends after school. She likes to back talk my husband and I. When her father grounds her, she cries and says she wants to go home to her mother and she calls her and all drama starts. Every time she comes, she wants to do whatever she wants and sometimes my husband just lets it slide. Now she wants to go home again and my husband is heart broken! I want him to be a FATHER and put his foot down! She's telling people I'm mean but I'm not! I don't deal with her, dad does. My son is 8 and I don't want him to grow up around her attitude. HELP!

Lately I've noticed that I get very irritated with my parents. It seems like everything they say irritates me somehow. It's not like they're extremely controlling or anything, but for example, if they start talking about god and christianity I get really annoyed. Also, it seems like they want to talk with me about life more than usual. For some reason I can hardly help rolling my eyes at them and saying something rude.
