My brother inlaw Matt 19 has always been golden child to my father in law despite fact he is meth head who beats wife, mother, father, has destroyed their home by breaking doors windows and stolen their jewelry, checks, money, he even busted their safe! They always call my hubby to help control him and he always does. But my F.I.L won't let poor Matt take the beating he needs and will wind up defending him. Anyway we had bought a housetrailer and stored it at my inlaws and my hubby found that Matt stole the copper wire out of trailer and sold it for drugs. My hub confronted Matt and the fight starts, which would have been ok, but my F.I.L[275lbs] jumped on my hubbys back before he got lick in and rode him to the ground, and held him in choke hold while Matt kicks him in the face with his boots. Now Matt bragging he beat his brother and F.I.L acts like he did no wrong. Of course hub is hurt by this but we have no solution but to cut ties..what would you do in this situation?

Katherine, yeah, there have been lots of break ins and thieving going on around town, and "whoever" is doing it is stealing mainly from elderly people.

Your husband needs to report this as domestic violence to the police... what right does anyone have to attack him? None!

Meanwhile your father in law is enabling his little Matt to continue doing drugs and behaving like an idiot, it seems. It's not your fault or your husband's...

Your husband needs to stop "saving" little Matt too! In fact, he needs to stay clear of him altogether, and not help him, ever.

Matt is old enough to take care of himself... and he needs to get straight and stand up and face life like a man.... as long as people are babying him and putting up with his crap, he will remain a pain in your family's butt.

take care.

Can't you take him to court or something for stealing the wiring out of the housetrailor? You're a witness, where is the mother in all of this? If you take pictures of the damage that was done to your hubbys face and probably his neck, you will have a nice lawsuit.

And it really sounds like the father in law is probably just smoking the meth with the son.

Frankly, if he's doing meth, I'd report him. He's not just stealing from your family, I bet. He's probably stealing from the whole neighborhood and should be in jail. You can decide whether the relationship with your FIL is important enough to keep, but frankly, I'd report him for assault. However, back up your husband: he should only report his father if he wishes. Otherwise, just phone in an anonymous tip about the BIL and his meth use, and have the police bust him. That way, you can deny it to keep peace in the family.

First andthe foremost thing is your FIL needs counselling
bcoz only of his behaviour and support your BIL is spoilt brat.
simultaneously your BIL also needs the same treatment.its not that big that you leave them and lead a happy life, but still you will not be able to due to your MIL suffering if you want things to be set right you have to convience them for counselling and then probably once your BIL gets normal you may move away from them.

My BIL has treated the whole family like crap and yet he can do now wrong. Needless to say after years of his bull5@#$ we no longer have a thing to do with him. Cut your ties and enjoy the peace it will bring to you life. We are! Best of luck!

get away from this guy!!!
He is obviously selfish because he has wrecked his life by taking drugs && not seeing the impact it has on himself && family.
Why bother hanging around?
Just lose contact with him, because it's not worth wasting time on a person like that.

Stay away from them!!!! You can choose friends but you can't choose family. But heck - I wouldn't even try to remember they live.
