Security - February 2007

I have tried Norton and McAfee and found both to be intrusive and downright obnoxious. Can someone recommend a good off the shelf program that wont act like it owns my computer? Thanks

i have Zone alarm pro , i use it in my home on wireless network and it keeps , giving me this alert , " IP address No.**** trying to access ur computer , " and PROTECTED on the top ... ok that IP address No. is my address !!! so, what is that mean???

everytime one is deleted it puts a copy of that picture back into My Documents. Does anyone know how to stop this?

Program control: A remote system is trying to access Microsoft Internet Explorer on your computer. Then it said at the top low risk. Does this mean someone is trying to get into my computer or something?

I would like to continue to create my web site...but found that all my personal info is there for all to see or who want to find it. My phone # is unlisted yet..there it is on Whois! I do not want my home addy published due to safety for myself and my family...You never know who's looking and what they are thinking. I have been stopped in my tracks by this. I know some will say its unethical, while others will say that if the owner doesn't secure it that it is their own dumb fault. I am NOT interested in the ethical discussion of this, but rather would like links to actual criminal cases where a person has been charged with accessing an UNSECURED wireless network. If the network is not secured, and I use it without permission, am I actually committing a crime that I could be convicted of if I was only using the internet access for normal browsing/non illegal activites?

The pop ups tell me to download registry cleaner or else and also to run registry update or else data loss and corruption or system failure. They pop up every few minutes. 3 different messages. I just click x. How can I stop these? Also do I need a firewall? Any suggestions for a free download on this too? This is all very distracting.

I have a trojan horse on my computer and I'm trying to get rid of it. It's not really messing anything up or slowing anything down though. The only problem is that it keeps trying to get me to download "get rid of spyware" stuff that is actually spyware itself. I have spysweeper and am running it for the 3rd time trying to get rid of it. Oh yeah one more problem. It wont let me access Yahoo directly. Like i have to go to yahoomail.com to access my mail and then use a link to get on Answers. weird huh? i also have a Norton Anti Virus Protection program that has destroyed some viruses today but anyway...how do i make my computer go back to the way it was pre virus?
