I can't figure out why all of my other settings remain the way that I set them. But my anti-virus will not stay "on". My firewall and automatic updates are fine - on and working, but what's up with the anti virus? Any ideas?

about every half hour I receive a message in a separate window which appears to me to be an advertisement disguised as a security alert. It explains to me that I may have a "critical registry error" and then instructs me to install a registry cleaner from http://fixpcreg.com

Seems obvious to me that this is b.s., but I can't seem to get rid of it with either Spybot or Adaware.

Is this a legitimate warning? If not, how can I remove it from my computer? My spyware removers don't seem to be working on it.

Thanks for your time.

Are there any good completely free programs that will put a password on document, folder or file. By free I mean free, no trial periods or limited use.

Have just run my anti spyware programme which found 10 high level programmes including Trojan. What exactly does this mean and how can I prevent it happening again? Would real time spyware help (I just have the standard BT one - Norton I think) and if so can you recommend one?
Thanks

I just got a new Dell laptop for my birthday, however, there are a few songs that I just love that aren't on iTunes. I don't know what to do. One of them isnt even on a CD! AH! So i was wondering.. Is limewire safe for my new computer? Is it going to fill my computer with viruses? Should I even take the risk?

I do not want my computer to have any viruses if at all possible. I wouldnt sacrafice it for a few songs.

Basically the system tells me to uninstall what I've currently got so I can install the free BT Yahoo security package. But there is no trace of what I'm supposed to find in my add/remove programs so I'm really stuck. My current Norton security has very recently expired so I'm in trouble and don't want to part with a lot of unnecessary cash at PC World to buy the latest Norton Security when I'm already paying for it as part of my package. Has anybody got any pointers for me please as I'm at a total loss.

I have active security monitor on my desktop( one of the programs that I would,nt be without , alongside mcAfee site Advisor) My ASM has always run on 100% secure and tells me as soon as it dips below this , for some reason, its gone to 79% and its telling me that it cannot detect an anti spyware program on my computer, but , I have my spybot , which has ,run normal everyday checks..( which, incidentaly are fine ) Yesterday I added spywareblaster to my collection , which is supposed to be compatable with spybot, Would this somehow disguise spybot as being installed,? Spybot is such an intricate program and I hope that its not just "running" on my computor , without actually, protecting it. How can I find this out for definate? Has anybody , come across this situation?
