I just got a new Dell laptop for my birthday, however, there are a few songs that I just love that aren't on iTunes. I don't know what to do. One of them isnt even on a CD! AH! So i was wondering.. Is limewire safe for my new computer? Is it going to fill my computer with viruses? Should I even take the risk?

I do not want my computer to have any viruses if at all possible. I wouldnt sacrafice it for a few songs.

Limewire is 99% safe as long as you don't download any games or software. If you are just using Limewire for downloading music, videos, and documents then you will be fine. Limewire does not install any spyware or adware like Kazza does. You should have a good antivirus/spyware scanner in the rare event that you do get a virus from downloading something on Limewire. You should also have a good firewall program too. Having a antivirus/spyware and a firewall is common sense, you should have it installed even if you don't have limewire. Nothing these days is 100% secure, but the chances of getting a virus are almost nonexistent. I have been using Limewire for years and have not once got a virus from downloading music on it. Here is the break down of the things you can download on limewire and the risks of getting a virus.
Chances of getting a virus from downloading an infected file.
Music: .0001%
Documents: .0001
Videos 5%
Software and games: 90%
If your worried about it you can use your old pc to download things of limewire. Once you feel its safe then you can put it on your new computer. Go to limewire.com to download the software. If you need any help just contact me through yahoo answers and I would be glad to help you out.

Limewire unlike Kazza or bearshare or any of the other popular p2p programs does NOT install spyware when you download it so it is veritably safe on that aspect.
If you are downloading music...you are safe.
NEVER let anyone tell you they got a virus from downloading an mp3 file..it is IMPOSSIBLE.
no matter how they swear up and down that's where the virus came from and they know someone who knows something about computers...it's nonsense!
Mp3 files are too small too contain a virus and that's a fact.don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
As far as downloading mpeg movie files or .exe files or WAR or ZIP files...then your taking a chance..as long as your antivirus is set to the p2p program you should be ok though.
Limewire is one of the cleanest p2p programs there is so go ahead and enjoy it before they shut it down.

essentially, Limewire itself won't give you viruses. The files that you download MIGHT. If you are willing to sacrifice the well being of your security, you can illegally download songs via Limewire. However, some of these files might have viruses on them.

Do not use Limewire to illegally download songs, especially from a p2p system like that.

the factor approximately downloading is which you will in no way be certain if the stuff you're downloading is official. as an occasion, the music document you're downloading will certainly no longer be a music document yet be a deadly disease. once you're sensible with what you acquire, you will no longer get any infections. yet it particularly is enormously no longer common pondering you don't understand the place that document got here from and the actuality that ninety 9% of limewire customers are those total noobs who in all hazard click on those "you are the a million,000,000th person!" classified ads. I even have confidence that Limewire has spyware on it. no longer viruses, yet utility that spies on what you do on your workstation and such. in case you decide directly to acquire illicit stuff then decide for DC++ or Torrent-ing. Torrenting is very extra risk-free because of the fact it particularly is amazingly clean who you're downloading from and if the archives are contaminated in any way, there are frequently comments asserting that on the torrent web site.

limewire program itself isnt the problem, the problem is that you are connecting to outside pc's to download/upload files etc...
and yes there are some virus's that get thru
need to look at what file type and file size you are downloading
i.e songs etc.. don't come in .exe. ,swf format

get a good anti-virus program keep it updated and be carefull
