Ok, I am trying to explain to my sister over the phone how to turn on the firewall that comes with sp2, but I dont have it anymore so I cant tell her exactly what to do. But she needs to know how to turn it on...can anyone help me out with step by step instructions with this? thanks in advance everyone who answers!!

click on the start button > control panel > fire wall.
but she would be better off getting a router with a builtin firewall instead. these stop stuff before they can get on your computer. the windows frewall and all other software firewalls you download can only deal with stuff after it makes it's way onto your computer.
all computers whether you intend to network them or not should have a router for this reason.
when hackers try to find your computer's ip number all they will get is the ip number of the router

Start>Control Panel>Windows Firewall.
If it were me I would not even bother with windows firewall. It will only monitor incoming traffic. So if something were to get in and try to send out information windows firewall will not detect it. Try a firewall from Comodo.

Click on Security Center
Click on Windows Firewall
Check on.Thats it

go to control panel and click windows firewall and click- on(reccomended) and ok, that is it switched on
