I'm afraid there's no such beast but on the other side of the coin make what ever anti-virus you use behave, I use Norton and have done so for a few years now but to make it behave I disable live update it drives me mad slows the computer to a crawl and nothing responds, just remember to do manual updates once a week
If you want a change try AVG it's free and it's good some of my friends swear by it you can download it from here http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

For paid programs you can get either Bit Defender or Kaspersky. These 2 apps are much better than Norton or McAfee. If you want a free antivirus i would recommend Avira Antivir PE.

Mac OS X or Linux - both come sans malware ;-)
Either that, or AVG. Its free, so you can't moan about the price.
And if you think McAfee is intrusive and obnoxious, try Microsoft Windows Vista!
Also, you can use SUPERAntiSpyware
http://www.superantispyware.com/
But remember that even though you've got some protection on, Microsoft Windows is still vulnerable!
* Make sure you always run up-to-date anti-virus and anti-spyware programs. Hourly is best.
* Always install all Microsoft security updates as soon as they come out.
* Ensure you have a properly configured firewall.
* Never use Internet Explorer (use Firefox instead) or MSN Messenger (Use GAIM or Trillian).
* Never download anything you don't understand.
* Never click on any ad banners.
* Never use any "P2P" file sharing programs.
* Consider the upgrade to Linux or Mac OS X to be free of adware / spyware / trojans

PC World had an article about this very subject a couple of months ago. Look up their website. It rates the programs by quality, cost, etc. I use AVG; it's transparent, updates daily automatically, is free, and, although PC World didn't like it, some of the correspondents did. I like it.

McAfee is the best, so I don't know what you are talking about. What do you mean by act like it owns your computer? If you had common sense then you would know why McAfee acts like it owns your computer. IT IS COMPLETELY PROTECTING YOU!!! Unlike other brands, McAfee ensure security stability

I got this free virus protection software that is really good. I like it better than norton because norton acts like my mother and controls everything. The free software is called AVG Free and you can get it from www.freewarefiles.com
Good luck. Please choose me as best answer.
