I don't think you'd get an honest answer if anyone has been taken by the scam.

It's "Nigerian", since it first arose in Nigeria, and is still practiced heavily there.
I know of an attorney who embezzeled hundreds of thousands of her client's money to lose it in this scam.
I get three or four of these e-mails a day. Once, I replied "up yours!". For months thereafter, I got scores of e-mails from scammers titled "Dear Up Yours"....
Why do you ask?
