No, it sounds like someone deleted the icons. Just find it with search and drag the icons onto the desktop again.

Well they have just removed the links but Norton is the worst choice as I know for a fact they create viruses and it makes sense as if no one did they wouldnt make millions every year.
Now AVG and Avast are good but are not in the top 10 of best detection rates for an anti virus I use AOL Active Virus Shield which is the second best and the best free anti virus for detecting viruses also its not actually made by AOL its made by Kaspersky which is the number one for detection rates of viruses so its free and its more effective so either fix the links or get AOL Active Shield.

It must be there. Was it a trial version?(ye know for limited period).Or else get prepared to change yer hard disk, cause a few months back a problem akin to yours i.e; my entire OS disappeared.Repeated formating etc did not help.I was informed that ,the problem was relating to "disk manager utility" and finally I had to replace a new drive.

I would first run a check on search and see if its found, otherwise I would if possible do a systems restore, saves a lot of hassle if thats what ur getting.

I would just download Avast AntiVirus. It's free, and less obtrusive than Norton. I've had no problems using it.

just make a shortcut to the desktop.

Try running some anti spywares...

Norton will disappear from your taskbar from time to time.
But then.. not sure why it disappeared from your start menu...
See if someone who has access to your computer deleted them.
