I got a new computer 7 months ago and a few of the letters on the keys to the black keyboard are fading away. How does that happen? Also what do you recommend using to re-mark some of the keys?

Ok, so my Dell screwed up on me and I had to go to factory settings and restart everything. The problem is, now I have no sound. When I go to the sounds and audio devices, it says that there's no audio device. What can I do to fix this problem? (I tried the trouble shooter, but it was no real help)

I recently installed a memory stick, but I didn't see any loose wires when I opened it back up again. I've tried everything, can anyone tell me what it should look like inside the PC? I have Windows ME, if that's important.

Why ATI/AMD company is so slow in releasing it products compared to Nvidia? I am big fan of ATI my self, all my video cards so far were from ATI,but dam when are the new video cards r600 from ATI coming out.On almost every generation of video cards it takes forever for them to release. Why they dont improve Crossfire to be as good as SLI? They need to do something about these things and be real competitive.

This is a dumb question, but when you install a new CD-ROM drive in a computer (XP) can you then use it to run the cdrom that came with the new drive to install the device driver?

OK. Here's the thing I've been wondering for about a kazillion billion years. A PC chip is small enough to carry in a pocket or a briefcase. So is a flashdrive and an external hard-drive. So, how come PC's aren't constructed so you can just slide in your own chip and connect your external hard-drive to any PC on the planet and make it work like your own home PC?

I accidentally left my computer on overnight with a heater running. In the morning, I shut it down, and then it would not turn on again. I managed to log in a couple of times, but it froze within a few minutes.

Now when I try to boot up, the computer's BIOS system has one long beep followed by two short ones. It runs Phoenix BIOS version 6.0. I tried to look up the codes, but they all had 3 sequences, and this one seems to have only two.

I have not messed with anything inside the computer, but this problem managed to start itself. The inside of the computer smelled like it had overheated, but turning off the heat and giving it time to cool did not solve the problem.

If anyone has any ideas or can help me, I will greatly appreciate it.

I have a 3.2 ghz processor with 3.plus gigs of ram . I am runung a program called Sketchup and it tends to run slow to a snails pace when the 3d model is fully rendered with all the details. When I add shadows, it goes down to almost 0. My graphics card is an Nvidia Gforce fx5200.
Could that be my problem?. I am not familiar with the graphics card specs., but I am assuming it could be the problesm. If so can anybody recomend an apropriate card for the application?

After connecting to the internet for the first time, I discovered that my sound no longer worked. I have tried everything I could think of including going into the control panel and clicking on sounds but don't really know what I'm doing. My computer will not even make a beep! Answers need to be detailed because I am not good at using computers.

Hi I am hoping one of you good people out there can advise me. I have two SATA hard drives both working fine and I thought why not install the old non SATA H.D. from my dead computer and use it for games and the like. I configured it as a second slave but Xp did not like that one little bit, I tried configuring it as “Cable Select” not that I have a clue what it means, but Xp turned it’s nose up at that, someone suggested configuring it as a slave of the slave but alas those waters are way too deep for me. Can anyone tell me how to make all three H.D.’s live and work in peace and harmony? Thank you.

My PC comes on of its own accord and then shuts down some times without completing the booting process, some times after it has finished booting and I am using it. When it is shutting down it indicates that it is saving my opened files and then finally shuts down. When I press on the power button for it to start it doesn't start. If I remove the power cord from the main power suplly while the PC is off and then reconnect it, the PC comes on and then shuts off without completing the booting process. I don't know what is responsible for this. I don't know whether a virus can cause such a problem with PCs. I was told to change the power block. I did without any change. A friend has tested the various components and has concluded that it is the motherboard that needs to be changed. But, I'll like to be extra sure before buying a new motherboard so as to avoid wastage of my meagre finances.

Hi, I am considering to buy an external hard drive. I need your help to understand a little bit which would be my best choice...

Does the external hard drive need to be always plugged in to the computer (e.g. to get power) in order to store the data? My plan was to transfer my pictures and then put it in my attic, as a backup of my pictures and video clips. I do not want to have it plugged to the power supply nor the computer. Is this possible?
