There could be a program you have running that is sucking up a lot of your memory - which is why it is pausing and you need to reboot in the first place. Hit your Ctrl + Alt + Delete buttons to bring up the task manager. Select the Processes tab and sort on the Mem Usage tab to see which programs are hogging your memory. Sometimes software programs do not work well with each other. If you can identify two or more that seem to eat a lot of memory, try to keep only 1 open at a time.

You should also defragment your computer. If you haven't done this in several months, it could take a few hours to complete. You should not be working on your computer as you defrag for best results. I'm running Windows XP and I can get to the defragment program through All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter.

You should also run a scan for any viruses. If you don't have spybot or another type of virus-scanning program, you can find these easily online (and many are free too!).

Another good idea is to try and limit the number of programs you have open at a time. Even if they are all small programs, if you have 10 things open at a time, it all adds up.

There is always the option of upgrading your PC, but I'm just suggesting non-upgrade options here.

Good luck!

Start only the programs you use most -- on the start up menu uncheck any unused programs. Then in control panel maintenance defrag the hard drive -- if you have Windows XP select "free up disk space"'.

There are too many programs loading when you start your computer. You need to remove them from the "MSConfig", just uncheck files, but do it one at a time, so your operating system doesn't refuse to work.
It could be a virus, or spyware, or even a trojan, you will then need software to scan for them.

To be really 100% clean & sure, the best thing for you to is to wipe it all out by making a fresh install of yours OS and everything. And of course don't forget to copy all your important docs first into your backup drive.=)

Depends on the specs of your computer. Honestly, the cheapest way to get a computer to move faster is to give it more RAM.

Have a talk with it and if it won't listen, smack it one. : } I really don't know but
thought that you might need a laugh. Computers are frustrating aren't they. They
have minds of their own---or is it the computer gremlins??? We may never really
know for sure. : }
