YES i've had the same problem.

On Boot up it goes to a black screen saying there is a missing System 32 file.

I had windows re-installed. Now i have made a boot disc to sort the problem.

Boot ROM DVD. Easy... You can get it off the Packard Bell site. : )

That means that the Windows Registry has been corrupted and it can not find information of the computer's hardware (the hal is the hardware list) to boot the computer.

You will need to do a repair reinstall of Windows to correct the registry problem.

Try reinstalling your operating system from original xp disc on top of your existing. If you cant then I think you have picked up a virus or deleted os files.
Then you will need to do a complete re intall.

Here is someone else who posted about this and their answer. If this doesn't help, go to google.com and type in the error message. It will bring up several other pages of info. HOpe this helps. :)
