After connecting to the internet for the first time, I discovered that my sound no longer worked. I have tried everything I could think of including going into the control panel and clicking on sounds but don't really know what I'm doing. My computer will not even make a beep! Answers need to be detailed because I am not good at using computers.

Stage one:

The speaker units

Are they plugged in, all wires in place correctly and the plug lead still in, with the switch on (if applicable). Ensure the speakers are still plugged into the system / computer.

Stage two:

The computer settings:

I have to assume you are using Windows xp now as you failed to specify which operating system you have.

Go to control panel and sounds and audio. Click adjust sound volume and ensure your speakers are not set on mute. The tick should be removed from the mute box.

Secondly pack in control panel and audio, click change sound settings and ensure that the Sound scheme is set to windows default. You may also wish to check that your pc is using the correct sound system configuration under the speaker settings and advanced tab.

Sadly this is a s far as my expertise can tell help you while typing it out in a easy to use format.

I hope this helps.

Make sure you don't have your settings set to mute... Go into your properties and look at your sound settings..

Could you have possibly not connected or maybe accidentally unplugged your speakers, look in back and make sure you have them connected properly..

It really has to be something very simple.. so I just stated the most obvious.
