I want to install XP, take out 98 but don't want to lose just 1or 2 things. The rest I don't care if lost. does it normally take 2-3hrs. to install? or longer? I went to windows update to figure out how but I don't understand the PC Lingo quite yet. Also I have 25 critical updates that need to be updated. It says to do separate cause of exclusive ones??I don't know if I install first or remove them first? I would like to try to update the 98 first to learn how on this PC before I do add & install XP. I need the experience of how to do stuff correctly. can anybody help? I hope I have not confussed ya?? the way I still remain? Thank you so much for your time & patience.

I like to have alot of disk space, so is performing Disk Cleanup and Defragmenting alot (E.g. 10 times a day) not good?

If that harms my PC in any way, how can I reverse this process? I don't want my PC to break easily.

So how many times should I do this, and when? Thanks!

If possible, please only specify number ranges such as 100-200 megs of free available RAM for typical computer usage such as web browsing, word processing, simple programs, and minimal multitasking.

i recently downloaded a file from limewire which had a very long name like "ice age 2 mmeltdown, very good quality dvd player required to view......" which spread over 2-3 lines.
as Win media player was the default player in my system, the file downloaded as a media file, when i tried to play it it dosent open, i tried different players even latest filters like AC3.
now the file not only dosent play in any player, but it occupies 750 mb of space on my hard drive. whats more is that it dosent get deleted. when i right click on it it dosent have the delete option. any ideas of how to get rid of it without formatting my hard disk,, will be of great help.

A friend of mine wants to buy a 250 GB USB external hard drive.
Link: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?DriveID=218
It's from Western Digital.

Anyway, he wants to know if he can put a bootable partition for using Linux via the new external harddrive. Of course, the BIOS has already been configured to boot from external USB pendrive first. But can this device be detected as an HDD by the BIOS allowing booting?

So, can it be done?
Thank you for answering.
