Well people can incorrectly throw around the thumps up and thumps down, you cannot dispute numbers, and the benchmarks show that the Core 2 Duos are superior to AMDs X2's. I'll provide links to a few.

its nothing to do whether its better or not,if you are playing games then the amd dual core is better.
amd are now better at playing games that what they where in the early 90's as processors have evolved so has intell and at the moment they have the market, if you are a game player like me then you would always pick amd as its quicker, but when it comes to number crunching I.E, access, office, anything to do with large number calculations then i would go for intell as that's what the processor was designed for, i have seen alot of changes over the years and i really mean that i have had a computer ever sinch the early 80's and i have seen alot of so called computer people but most of them don't know a thing about them, most of it is what they read in books, i still have to meet a person who can outwit me when it comes to this field, i have seen alot of so called computer engineers that all they are interested in is just a quick fix so they can come back later and make more money of people rather that fixing the problem properly i think now this industrie is all obout money.

it still suprises me that there as so many people out there that are so computer illiterate.

if you really want to learn then do something about it and buy a good book and read it.

i reccmend The IDIOTS GUIDE TO COMPUTERS ITS IN MOST MAJOR BOOKSHOPS AND WILL HELP NO END

on like for like basis i'd say AMD are better than Intel.
ok so i do not as yet use dual core processors. But if the dual core perform as great as my sempron then i'm going to have no complaint.
for example, in my primary computer i have an AMD sempron 3400 CPU (2000Mhz or 2Ghz) i also have a tv tuner card that requires an intel 2.2Ghz CPU. yet my system runs the TV tuner with NO problems and the processor gets at no more than 45% used even when accessing the internet at the same time or networking between my home lan.
and as for system performance and stability the system i'm writing this on has been up almost continually (just essential updates to some software) only shutting down to reboot instantly for the past 40 days with NO errors, malware or other unexpected problems.
the only expected issues i have on my system is with the cookies that are stored by sites i visit. i wish coders would stop being lazy in the programing and delete the cookie at the end of the user session, and only install a new cookie when the user logs back in to their site.
I only ever use AMD processors as they have a great reputation for performance and reliability.
you can almost guarantee any server worth its salt is running an AMD processor or two. (ones that have never had a problem)

a 2.2Ghz intel = 1.8 - 2Ghz AMD for example.

however do your own research and take a look at the oficial companies sites see http://www.amd.com
http://www.intel.com
now read and compare processors. go to a local computer store that has both processors in like for like machines and see for yourself what suits you best.

it is your computer, every user needs different things from a machine so you will have to find one or custom build one that suits your personal needs.

good luck.

the Intel benchmarks are faster than the AMD benchmarks but I don't notice that much of a difference. I am running a AMD Athlon x2 5000+ processor, 2gb of ram, nvidia 7600gt, and it has a 320gb hard drive, this was an upgrade from an old Pentium 4 1.6. The new one i have is amazingly faster, i mean insanely fast. It depends on what you want to do and how soon you will upgrade your computer because most likely intell you have to replace the MOBO with the processor. AMD is cheap too. just my two cents.

I am very happy with my HP7334 that has a dual AMD (I've had it for 10 months). As a matter of fact, I am looking for a laptop that has an AMD dual.

AMDs nowhere stand with Intel. in spite of much less clock-velocity, i could prefer Intel because of the fact it supplies greater desirable cache, reliability, greater desirable coping with, greater desirable existence and bigger style-have faith. that's why Intel laptops are dearer than AMDs and additionally because of bigger engineering.

As one also has said, the Intel core 2 is the fastest for now. But in games, it's not going to make much difference. As one has said, www.tomshardware.com for benchmarks. It's according to how much money you want to spend.
