I am assuming you have the original box of Windows XP. The box should list what are the requirements. Without knowing what's in the gut of your PC, no one can say whether your PC is ready or not. Compare what you have with what's listed on the box. If you don't have all of the requirements, then your PC is not ready.

If you don't have a Windows XP box, then how in the world would you install XP, eh?

The bottom of the box Windows XP comes in, under "System Requirements", will tell you if your PC is ready for XP.

For windows XP I would have at least a 600Mhz CPU and 512MB RAM. If you mean Vista then thats a different animal.

note: The requirements I gave are not the Microsoft minimum requirements, but they are my opinion as to where you should start on specs to run Win XP without too much trouble.

I have the XP system requirements from the box. It says to use Xp Home edition you must have a 300 MHz or higher processor clock speed recommended. 233 MHz minimum requirements needed. also, you can go to start>help& support> what's new in windows XP to take a tour of windows XP. or click start> all programs> windows update. or go to www.microsoft.com/support/.

If your computer doesn't have a sticker on it somewhere that says it is designed for windows xp, or (on the same sticker) says that it is windows xp capable, then your PC can't use it.
