PC stands for Personal Computer. It is the same as a desktop. It is often not portable like a laptop because it uses a large monitor (computer display device similar to a television) and the tower (box that you push the power button on) is rather bulky and sometimes heavy.

Laptops (also known as notebooks) are portable, but they are more expensive and often lack the computing power that desktops posses. They also are harder to repair and don't last as long as desktops.

You may want to ask the employer if they have a employee purchase program for PCs through a respectable supplier or distributer. They may be able to get you a deal with someone like Dell or something.
