I have used a PC my whole left and am being told to look into a Dell and Apple, and I am curious as to which would be better.

I am looking to buy a laptop, considering a `Sony V' or an `Acer' brand at the same price but with a lot more memory and also Intel Duo. Is it a wise move to stick with the Sony as I know they are a reliable brand? Does anyone have any experience with `Acer' comps?

Our family knows a little about pcs and we have a great one right now. I would like to get my husband a laptop in Oct. He likes to play games, and burn. Hes a Dell man but dont like there style, and I like to talk to someone who speaks english when I have a problem. I was thinking of going to Best Buy and looking around.

I have found that, only hp,toshiba, sony, and emachines are the
only computer company's that have there products in stores.
Besides DELL and those kiosks at the malls, I haven't found a
store yet that you could walk into and buy an IBM which is what
I really want. COULD ANYONE HELP ME PLEASE? I have an
HP desktop that I bought last year just cause of the lightscribe
technology I thought it was cool, but I fell for it when I
should ve waited. I really don't like hp because my friend also
has one and both ours work poorly,freezing, not playing quality video, stopping and loading in the middle of surfing the net,etc.
etc........if no one can help me then what is a good quality brand
to buy, I'm looking for good video,burning cd's, I have a small internet business in the works so a good business orientated
computer won't hurt either, and I am looking to spend between
1500 and 2500 max on a laptop! HEEEEEELP! hahahahaha

I've noticed that the 256mb ram in the rock laptop (i have an agenda si model) is partially used by the viedoe card, so i can't install apps with a minimum 256mb requirement. i want to upgrade RAM but can't see where it lives. The large panel underneath houses the CPU and CPU fan, and the small panel houses an unidentifiable cable. Does anyone know where the RAM is located, how to access? I'm guessing i'm going to have to take it to pieces, but any 'watch out for this' guides very much appreciated!
SO... where is the RAM located on a rock notebook/ laptop....?

Few days ago suddenly I can't type anything into my laptop computer, the keyboard seems not working at all. I don't know whether this is caused by some sort of virus/worms and is there anyway to get the keyboard activated again.

My laptop has recently died and refuses to boot into Windows XP. The error message I receive is "Unmountable Boot Volume", I have done some searches on the internet and tried a few things but still can not get it to boot / fdisk / format or re-install.

This is what I have tried so far: -

* Booting with Windows 98 and deleting partition and creating a new one with fdisk - deletes partition but freezes when trying to create new one and when computer is reset old (deleted) partition is still there?

* Removed Laptop hardrive and tried to boot as an additional drive in another machine - just kept freezing the other machine?

* Booted into Windows XP Recovery console and tried chkdsk /r - get to around 39% and then stops saying that there are un-recovereable errors.

* Booted Windows XP installation disc and tried to install a new setup - failed with an error on hard drive?

Is there anything else I can try before buying a new hard drive?

if i'm on the internet for awhile (around 2 or 3 hours), my laptop crashes. all my programs end. then my background and start menu flash on and off. its really weird, any solutions? Thanks, i hoped it made sense.

I was wondering exactly what I could do you get the speed back to what it was before? I have ran various virus test and it has come up with nothing. My laptop is about a year and half old. It is the HP pavilion zv5000. I am not sure how to make it go at the previous speed, I am not sure if there is some kind of adware or malicious program on it? Someone told me that I might have to save my information to a disk and format the hard drive. Is this true?

I have a Toshiba laptop (Satellite L25). I needed to reinstall everything and discovered that the "recovery disc" is actually on the hard drive. I tried the routine from the website (holding 0 while powering up) but this did not work. Does anyone know how to get this done? I called Toshiba, but they wanted $35 just to talk to me.

I use my computer ALOT for research. From American History/Civil War Nurses to Herbal Medicines/Cosmetics. I even lost the research behind all my college papers, which I think are backed up on disk, but the only links I have to the research I put into them are the ones I quoted in the bibliographies. All of the internet links I used for my projects were bookmarked in my Favorite's List on my web browser, among other links, of course. In addition to my initial question, I'd like your opinions of any service professional who claims to be able to retrieve my data. I'm strapped for cash, so if you know an inexpensive service professional, I'd appreciate the info. I've been doing this kind of research since I got the computer, it's quite invaluable to me. I NEED MY RESEARCH! I also lost my interior designs, and I was planning to open an inventory business with my computer. With all the info I had stored, I just don't think I can remember all my links. Some were old, but some were brand new.

I am mainly going to be gaming with more real time strategy games like star wars empire at war, but I would like it to be able to handle somewhat decently future games like Command and Conquer 3 when it comes out next year.
