I am looking to buy a laptop, considering a `Sony V' or an `Acer' brand at the same price but with a lot more memory and also Intel Duo. Is it a wise move to stick with the Sony as I know they are a reliable brand? Does anyone have any experience with `Acer' comps?

I've got two Acers and have had an HP.

Both Acers have had no problems and are really good value for money. I've had one for nine months and one for two months. Very impressed with both. Obviously no long term experience yet.

HP computer came with a faulty driver for the internal modem. HP hard drive knackered after six months and HP were a pain so I had to go through insurance to mend. HP slowed down after 4 years that I had to leave it on to save having to wait for it to boot up.

From personal experience I recommend an apple however that is not on your list. The apples range from 13" to 17" screens with hard-drives capacity of 60GB to 120GB. This and other features can be chosen by the customer once you have chosen the initial computer.

I'll go for a SONY VAIO notebook. Those are the best. I have a VAIO desktop and two VAIO notebooks in our family. They are great. I am personally planning to get a notebook, but won't choose anything other than SONY VAIO.
