Please do not go to Best Buy. They may speak english but thier service is horrible.
The best laptops both in looks and functionality are Compaq. the best one I can recommend to you is the V2000 series and I would get it either at Staples or direct from Compaq.
If you hubby's a gamer, you want to make sure you get the wide brightview screen with the ATI 200m mobile grahpics. It's like watching HDTV on your computer that is how life like the the picture is.
Also order the 60G harddrive and if they offer a memory upgrade you want the memory upgrade to 1g memory.
Here is the best part. The whole outfit described above can be purchased for less then $900. Shipping not included .
I bought the exact same system described above and love it.

He wants a pc for sure?
If he's open to new ideas, macs are incredible. The new macbook is a great laptop that supports creative programs and has great sound quality in its built-in speakers. I just converted from pc to mac, and I don't ever wanna look back.
But if you're gonna go pc, get a sony. Sony is a great brand, good quality and warranty available.
I would go to your Best Buy and ask for assistance. Tell the computer guys what your husband wants, what your budget is (if any), and go from there. They can help.

Well any man would LOVE an Alienware laptop. Top of the line for PC gaming.
If he isnt going to be using it for high end graphics then go with something a little cheaper but still really nice. I just purchased a Ferrari Notebook. They are wonderful. The look of it amazes everyone one. It has CARBON FIBER!
Here is a link to the place I purchased my laptop. They have very good deals and you can pay in payments.

Both PC World and CNet rate Dell computers high.
PC World also says Toshiba Satellite P105-S921 is good too but a laptop is a laptop... all the brands are good... they all run Windows XP except for Macs

Best Buy is a good place to start.
First decide how much you want to spend.
The most important feature for a laptop is a good sized screen (with detailed resolution). Then you may worry about RAM, hard disk size, and optical drive features. As long as it is wireless-ready (almost all laptops are these days) and has a large, easy to read monitor, you can then look for 'extras' (free stuff). Weigh the features/cost and go from there. Good luck!!
