What is the little red (or green) eraser thing in the middle called? And what about the pad, the one you use your finger on the pad to move the pointer around? Just wondering what the proper terms are for these.
Thanks!

I'm looking for a personal laptop/notebook, but I know little about computer hardware- could someone help me (as specifically as possible) find a good laptop/notebook? Links are great.

I am going to use it for:
- playing games
- surfing internet
- making and saving office documents (word, powerpoint, etc)

Here's what I want:
- as cheap as possible
- as fast as possible
- decent battery life
- capability to run windows
- capability to run games (such as the Sims)
- fairly portable, but weight isn't a big issue

Thank you!

I have a Hp pavilion ze 5200, my mother took it to mexico. On the plane she said it started acting funny (not sure if this had anything to do with it or not) Anyway she powered it down on the plane, went to her hotel room and hooked it up to an adapter for a mexican outlet. After she pluged it in, it would not power on, no lights come on. Just black death... Battery is dead also. I am not sure what happened to it but I bought a new power supply thinking something might of happened to it. No luck. If anyone has had simialar problems let me know and what they did to fix it! Thank you very much!

On the side of my laptop, there is a slot with two spaces on top of each other covered by a plastic piece that moves up (like the memory card slot on a PS2, but twice as big).

The opening is about 1/2 - 3/4" tall and about 2 1/2" wide. There are two clicky pieces also, and when they are pressed a plastic piece extends about 1 1/2 inch but does not come out.

What goes into these slots?

I'm looking for a nice college student laptop at a reasonable and affordable price ($500-$600).. It doesn't need all the glitz and glamour.. but I'd like to be able to have enough memory for plenty of files.

I've already changed CD-R brands, tried different software, and even restored my computer (not just for that. I did some upgrading as well). I was told there was something between Windows and certain burning software that if I remove that script it will start to burn again. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.

it is a word document, actually a novel. something happened to the hard drive one day while i was typing. usually in WORD, two windows open up. one for your list of documents and another one in which the selected document opens. while i was typing one day, the window for the list just closed. no reason. it just closed. and the only window open was the one for the document. ever since then the file has been tagged "corrupted". if i email it to anyone , they cannot open it. i have scanned it for viruses and it comes up clean. i am stumped and fear i will have to re-type 453 pages. help!
