HP, Sony and Dell make the best pre-built systems out of everyone. I personally like Sony and HP more, but Dells are acceptable in most cases.

Inexpensive, very reliable and good customer service. I have been using a dell dimension 4100 desktop now for almost 6 years. I never had any major problems with it. Customer service is available 24/7.

If I ever had a problem with a part that they couldn't fix over the phone, they replaced the part free of charge. The downside is that as someone else said, you don't get the best parts. Also, you can't upgrade everything either. They purposely make the towers smaller so you can't expand very much and you'd have to buy a new system. If you are just using it for things like surfing the internet, word processing, spreadsheets, etc they are fine. If you want performance, like for gaming, graphics design and running multiple applications at once, don't go with Dell.

They may be cheap but you want to make sure you get at least 3 years warranty - and that is where they get you.

I bought a new tower custom-made and I couldn't be happier!

The parts aren't top of the line, but they are at least average and then some. I've had a Dell P1 120 since 1995 that has been running strong, the only part that I've lost was the CD-ROM and that's totally understandable considering the time span.

But besides the parts, their customer service is second to none along with cheap prices. I've had several friends who've had laptop issues and generally Dell will send them a laptop on the spot before sending the original back, they are very customer service oriented.

I don't want to sound like a Dell fan-boy, but my experience with them has been nothing but positive.

I don't know, when you find out, how about you let me know. I refuse to buy a desktop from any big box brand, I build my own. The only thing I go crawling off to a manufacturer is for a laptop and due to my misgivings of HP (bad hard drive, motherboard and memory within three months, gave up on warranty service), Dell (two bad displays) and Gateway (dead pixels on display... more than 15 in three cases) I have given up on them as well. I bought a laptop from Acer, I've had zero issues with it, hopefully it will stay that way. Oh and I replaced that bad laptop hard drive myself and the new one still failed even though it was a different brand, I blame HP. They all suck so far, besides Acer that is.

Dell is more reliable. They have good customer support and they offer a 2 year warranty for repairs. They're better than HP but personally I'd never buy either of those brands.

A BIG step down from Apple, but it's up there. Also, the price.

The price points.

I think it's because they are too lazy to have their own custom systems built.
