The best way to update memory is to attach it to the motherboard using a slot.
There is a great site that can answer many questions called
crucial.com.
The site will tell you what type of memory to buy and if your computer has any slots for memory remainging.
When it comes to memory, generally more is better.
Tip-Make sure you buy memory that is compatible. Crucial helps in telling you the specification of the memory you need.
Also-don't spend extra money on higher speed memory if you have an existing memory card that runs at a slower speed because the computer will run at the speed of the slower RAM.

1G RAM should be enough for you. I have only 512mb and get along fine -- and many times I have two or three applications going. Just don't have your memory clogged up with a fancy screensaver which runs in the background. They may look cute, but graphics can really play a number on your RAM.

If you use Crucial.com it would be better because they will scan your laptop for the correct memory. You can't buy any memory because if its wrong you can break you laptop and lose lots of information. You will also find they are less expensive than most places.
