I have a Hp pavilion ze 5200, my mother took it to mexico. On the plane she said it started acting funny (not sure if this had anything to do with it or not) Anyway she powered it down on the plane, went to her hotel room and hooked it up to an adapter for a mexican outlet. After she pluged it in, it would not power on, no lights come on. Just black death... Battery is dead also. I am not sure what happened to it but I bought a new power supply thinking something might of happened to it. No luck. If anyone has had simialar problems let me know and what they did to fix it! Thank you very much!

If she plugged it into a 220 vac outlet she probably cooked it. The standard voltage for mexico is 120 at 60 hz so it should have been safe, unless the outlet or adapter was miswired. Try charging the battery in a different laptop and then install it to see if that will work.

Uh oh, from what I can tell, your mother didn't use the adapter properly and probably burned out the power supply...which means you need a new laptop. On the plane, it was probably just running out of battery life.

There is no point in sending it to the manufacturer (you could try and tell them that it wasn't your fault) because usually warranties don't cover power surges/failures. If you bought the warranty from the seller, then start reading the fine print and see if they cover it.

There is also no point in taking in to in-store technicians at Fry's, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Because laptops are very sensitive and the dirt and oils in our air can easily scratch the exposed components and render them useless. Laptops need to be opened in a controlled environment.

If you still don't want to buy a new one, then my suggestion would be the manufacturer itself. Send it to them for repair.

Where are you from USA? If so your voltage AC is 110 V, you should check what the voltage in Mexico is if it is as in Europe 220 V then probably that is the reason. You better bring your notebook (laptop) to a technician like the ones' that are in Best Buy (a USA) store. Good luck with your notebook.

I would have to say it had something to do with the wireless adapter and the planes electronics, maybe? then maybe the outlet had too much power running thought it, it compleatyl bypassed the fuse in the powersupple and entered the computer.

Mexico uses 120volts. I've heard that its actually a slighty higher voltage of 127 volts, but I'd assume most power bricks would be able to handle that.

If you go to mexico you should be able to use all the same electronics as in the United states.

She might not have had the right adapter. If the computer requires 120 Volts and she plugged it into a 250 Volt outlet, she fried the system, I hope you had it under warranty, otherwise, new computer for you.

if you don't have warranty on the laptop then you should look for a new one.

Lesson learned :: don't go to mexico with laptops,
