For laptops, Intel has been the dominant leader in this category since the Centrino processor was released. I'd go with Intel.
Some benefits over AMD laptop offerings:
- Highly efficient throttling of the CPU saving battery life
- More powerful per Mhz, also saving battery life
- built-in wireless
I would be careful about the argument that gaming is better on AMD than Intel. That was true for a long time with desktop systems until Intel recently released the Core Duo processors. Now that has shifted away from AMD's Athlon 64/X2 into Intel's favor.
Also, you don't buy a laptop to stay on the cutting edge of gaming. You buy a dekstop for that, so you can upgrade the CPU and video card once or twice before you have to buy a new system. It just doesn't make sense to worry about gaming on a laptop. You will get good results in this area on either Intel or AMD. Most can only tell a difference by looking at a benchmark and not from playing the game itself.

I have purchased AMD for the last 7 years. Thier chips are stable, fast and inexpensive. They do seem to run hotter. I always look at cache to compare against Intel. Also compare the video that is installed, this will be very important for gaming. I would suggest a AMD ML64-32 with 128mb video, at least 768mb RAM. Moreover, dont get a Brightscreen, they glare alot...

GO WITH AMD's SOCKET 939 SEMPRON (COMING OUT SOON)....then u can upgrade later to a dual core need be...! Just make sure the motherboard will support the dual core proc. PLUS socket 939 is a tested (for years now) socket/platform and AMD's socket AM2 does not give u much more in the way of performance.
Either Sempron socket (754, 939, AM2) will enable (or already includes the 64 bit instruction set) a 64 bit upgrade.
The programs (games/various apps) are always years behind the hardware whether is be a 64 bit proc or a dual core proc. A Sempron (AMD's equivalent to the Intel Celeron) is all most people need and can get any real use or net gain from.

It depends on what you want to use your laptop for. In case your a hardcore gamer i would recommend you AMD processor for your laptop with 64 bit technology.
And if your more on application side and less of gaming then you can go for Intel.
I have tried to explain in the most easiest way in case you still need help you can post again.
