if all you want is a laptop that has wireless internet, ability to check e-mails, word processing, spread sheets, and basic office type work, viewing photo's etc

no video editing, no gaming, nothing really processor hungry then....

virtually any bottom of the range laptop will do for you to be quite honest, I wouldnt be too concerned about the marque of each product, if that is all you want the machine for, and to be quite honest, the lower end of the range would have far to much power than what you require.

I would reccomend you looking for refurbished older model laptops with say a minimum of 800mhz processor, that would be adaquate for your needs, you do not even have to get one that has an internal wireless system, as you can buy those at most pc shops for about £15/$30.(although if you choose to get the device to make it wireless, it will stick out about 2 inch's from the side of the machine)

e-mail me if you wish, i will try and give you more advice if needed.

i like the dell xps it has built in wireless connectivity and it looks really cool with its red lights. I would recommend that u go with the media center edition (even though you don't want media stuff it will be there if you want to get a ipod or a mp3 player) i have a ipod video it is so cool or windows OS Professional dell notebooks are the best notebooks available to purchase I bought mine from buy.com they have really good prices and a good selection to choose from this is the ultimate in on-line shopping

I have an HP pavilion. It's a really good computer...but it gets pretty hot. And it's kind of heavy. But for the price I paid for it, it was a really good deal.

If I could go back, I might consider getting a dell.

Go to www.rateitall.com and look up laptops. You will be able to see feedback from people who rated the products, and what they thought of it.

i sold computers for two summers. everyone is wireless capable and has the basic programs. keep it virus free and it'll work well. as far as brands, sony is the best and most epensive. apple is up there too but expensive too. find out the specs you need and go from there.
