I am using Windows XP on Packard Bell and when I purchased the computer I created a Master CD per interactive instructions. I now can install the CD when my computer starts and choose to remove and reinstall Windows XP and programs or just Windows XP. I have done both these things but my computer still retains a lot of data (music files, old word documents, programs)

Is there a more complete restore I can do to erase all data and reinstall? If so I need instruction on how I do this?

Further Information: When I install the Master CD on start up I have a screen with three choices. 1 is to reformat, 2 is advanced options (Install XP and programs or just XP) and 3 is to exit

Does anyone know why my monitor sometimes works, then sometimes it doesn't? Sometimes I get the message "No signal Input or cable Disconnected". Other times it works just fine. It just periodically gets this error (as if it needs a coffee break). Sometimes it comes back within minutes, other times it could be hours. But it does come back? I have a Compaq Presario 5UVME2 Desktop running WindowsXP SP2. I don't even go near the computer. It just comes back on by iteself. Since it was temporarily up, I installed the latest ROMpaq and Firmware. That didn't make any difference though. Its down again. Its very temperamental. I've tried a different monitor, different graphics card, and several diferent sticks of PC100 Ram, different power cord, cleaned out the dust, etc. How would I test the mobo to see if that's the problem?

Please Read:

I am trying to reformat my computer. I have a Dell copy of Windows XP Home that came with my computer. Everything went well, till I tried to delete my C: NTFS partition through the Windows setup. It told me that the setup files were still on the drive and the partition couldn't be deleted.

I tried to use an approach I used on my laptop several days ago, where I installed Win 2000 through a floppy drive and then upgraded to XP. This process didn't use my C: drive for setup files. The only problem is, my desktop that I am now formatting doesn't have a floppy disk drive.

Is there anyway to safely remove my windows partition, or somehow redirect these setup files to another drive?

i have a hard drive with windows vista 32 installed on it, but i ordered and installed a new hard drive on which i want to install windows vista 64 (my pc supports 64-bit, so i don't have to worry about that)... when i insert the WV64 dvd to install, after clicking "next" a couple of times, a screen comes up where i have to specify the partition i want to install windows vista 64 on, but it doesn't see any partition at all, unless i connect my old hard drive. i want to know how to make windows vista recognize my new hard drive. any help?

I'm planning on building my first computer in a few months. A friend of mine did it a few years ago, and the process doesn't look very hard, so I'm going to try it myself, but I don't know whether to install the new windows or keep with the old in a handbuilt computer. I've heard it's not that great in old computers, and that it's great with computers that are bought new, with it installed. Does anyone know the pros and cons?
