I am using Windows XP on Packard Bell and when I purchased the computer I created a Master CD per interactive instructions. I now can install the CD when my computer starts and choose to remove and reinstall Windows XP and programs or just Windows XP. I have done both these things but my computer still retains a lot of data (music files, old word documents, programs)

Is there a more complete restore I can do to erase all data and reinstall? If so I need instruction on how I do this?

Further Information: When I install the Master CD on start up I have a screen with three choices. 1 is to reformat, 2 is advanced options (Install XP and programs or just XP) and 3 is to exit

What you want to do is a complete reinstall to get rid of all the stuffs you collected over the years. Now, what you need to do is to put in the master disc and select option (1) to reformat your hard drive. After that's done, select option (2) to either install win XP alone or with all the programs that came with the pc. After the installation is done, make sure you run Window updates to get all the latest drivers and patches for WinXP.

If you want to erase the every thing you can format the drive and then do clean install of XP. This is only if you dont want go through your computer looking for things you need to delete. Unistall programs and search function in XP could help you do this, if you know the extention of the files or folders your looking for, but this is more tedious. Make sure you save your data(my documents, my music..etc) you have currently before formatting, try:

You want to reformat all the data? go to My computer... right click onto a blank space and then properties... On the "system restore" tab, choose how you will reformat your computer.

When you did your restore, what there the options of doing a destructive recovery? If so, this is the option you want to choose because it re-creates the partition which effectly erases everything on the hard drive.
