I DO NOT HAVE SPYWARE/ADWARE OR VIRUSES, I DO NOT NEED TO RUN DISK CLEANUP OR DEFRAGMENT!

I want my computer to lag instead of totally freeze up. It freezes when I run too many programs. It's also when my processor reaches 100%, it freezes. How do I just make it lag instead of totally freeze?

Windows Vista, no matter the computer, is just visually gorgeous. That's where you say, "Houston, We have a Problem." Your computer probably lacks in RAM, or Random Access Memory. To put it simply, the more RAM you have, the faster your computer goes. There is a website called crucial.com which can tell you how much memory you can upgrade to, what type you need, and they even list some that you can buy. The website for the scanner is...

If that doesn't help, then I don't know what will, except getting a faster hard drive and a better Mother board and CPU: in other words, a new computer basically.

Chances are you are using more resources than the computer has. You may need to some things such as add more RAM, or upgrade the processor. When you run too many programs, they all use up a bit of RAM. More RAM means more programs. Also, if your processor is constantly going to 100%, you are running too many processor-intensive programs. Upgrading to a faster processor will help a little, but the RAM is important.

I would recommend you install more RAM and a new processor, or simply buy a new computer; If your computer is a laptop, I strongly recommend getting a new machine, because upgrading your ram/CPU is a real pain in a laptop. Also, consider replacing your graphics card, especially if it's on your motherboard. I recommend an Nvidia graphics card, because for the same amount of money you'd spend on an ATI card, you'll get a more powerful Nvidia card. Also, make sure you run your virus scans/malware scans in safe mode(accessible by pressing F8 while your PC is booting) because they do a proper job in safe mode.

You need to add more memory to your computer. I you are running several programs at a time, you don't have enough memory to run them all. Also, make sure you delete all of your temporary internet files and cookies. I would recommend at least 512MB of Ram, if you have this, then upgrade to 1GB. Each program has different requirements for the amount of Ram it needs to run.

More RAM, but if you upgraded to Vista it could be that although your machine theoretically can run Vista it might not be fully up to the challenge (memory wise)!

Vista really needs 1gb+ RAM
