I am trying to reformat my computer. I have a Dell copy of Windows XP Home that came with my computer. Everything went well, till I tried to delete my C: NTFS partition through the Windows setup. It told me that the setup files were still on the drive and the partition couldn't be deleted.

I tried to use an approach I used on my laptop several days ago, where I installed Win 2000 through a floppy drive and then upgraded to XP. This process didn't use my C: drive for setup files. The only problem is, my desktop that I am now formatting doesn't have a floppy disk drive.

Is there anyway to safely remove my windows partition, or somehow redirect these setup files to another drive?

Download & use this free alternative to Partition Magic :

Partition Logic is a free hard disk partitioning and data management tool. It can create, delete, format, defragment, resize, and move partitions and modify their attributes. It can copy entire hard disks from one to another.

Partition Logic is free software, based on the Visopsys operating system. It boots from a CD or floppy disk and runs as a standalone system, independent of your regular operating system. It is intended to become a free alternative to such commercial programs as Partition Magic, Drive Image, and Norton Ghost.

If you are trying to wipe out the whole computer then you want to put in the windows cd and restart the computer and boot from the cd-rom. You can not format the c: drive from inside the operating system. If you can not boot from the cd drive then a BIOS setting needs to be set.
